Did the Farmer's Alamanac predict that too? They seem to have got the NE pretty well right.

Does anyone know the basis for the Farmer's Almanac predictions?

We're getting that cold snap tomorrow. Thanks a lot, mongo!

The only thing worse than getting a cold snap is getting one after Mongo's already used it.

as per our latest excel energy bill december 2008 was 3 degrees colder on average than december 2007. this better not hold true for january. it was bad enough arriving in time for the coldest winter in 10 years, i refuse to experience the two coldest winters in 10 years back to back.
yes, i've been remembering to drip the kitchen pipes and to leave the kitchen cabinet doors open--and there has been no more pipe-freezing. so far.

I have been remembering this man with some real vigor over the past couple of days. He was a miserable stinker, although now that he has gone on to his reward I can't say what I really thought of him. But if I'm any judge of these things, I'll bet he's hotter than Squeat Mungry. DebVanD

I've opted to share a snowblower with my next-door neighbor rather than buy my own. I think we payed about $400 total and it is a mid-sized, four stroke, non-Toro. I've used it twice this year on the driveway. The rest of the time it wasn't worth the bother to fire it up and I just shoveled.
It really is cold out there. The sun dogs this morning were spectacular.

The Boy is coming today to visit for a few days, and when I told him about the cold snap on the phone last night, there was a long, uncharacteristic silence. Hey, I'm not the one who decided moving to the urban Midwest in February was going to be a good idea

Clear and dry? Why, I'm going to need to wear sunglasses if this keeps up.
Why oh why oh did I ever leave Ohio?

Computers. I saw an article on this last fall. In spite of their homespun facade they're quite scientific about it these days, consulting the Nat'l Weather Service & some meteorologists who specialize in long-term weather modelling & such.
Meanwhile the next 3 days are likely to be the coldest of the year for us. I guess that's already been noted. Still, I may start a thread in praise of Polartec fleece & long underwear.
