I noted them back in April. Seems so long ago now.Is anyone familar with Tea Gschwendner? They just opened a shop on the UWS.
They're a large German firm. I've ordered from them on line several times in the last year or so, before they started opening stories in NYC. They have some very good Assams & Ceylons, though I haven't found anything to quite equal the best Assams from Upton Teas. I can't speak for any of Tea G's other varieties.

i believe the store is open till the end of the week (Sun 10/17).
Everything is always OK in the end. If it's not OK, then it's not the end.

I just stopped in today and got a cup of their After Eight--rooibos with mint and chocolate. It's subtle, and good if you like those kinds of blends. The sales clerk, sweet as can be, gave me a little egg timer to make sure I didn't overbrew it. Their set-up, with fancy kettles and water taps, kind of reminds me of this:
You could just IMAGINE a hipster tea bar, where water temperatures are intensively monitored and the brewing periods for each different tea are calculated to the millisecond.
Their macaron selection encompasses several tea-related flavors. I got the Darjeeling, which has bits of tea in the cookie. The filling was really creamy, more so that in other macarons I've had, so I'm glad it was a mini one (though $2 for it is a little precious). The blueberry scone is a plain scone with a dollop of blueberry jam on top. It's quite moist and buttery, without a heavy baking powder aftertaste you often find in scones.
Meanwhile, Harney and Sons has a tea shop & salon on Broome Street by Crosby, and there's also the Tea Set on West 12th Street just off Greenwich Avenue. It's a good time to be a tea lover.

Do Bosie &/or Tea Set also sell loose teas, or are they strictly salons? After months of delay, Bosie Tea Salon has finally opened on Morton Street. They're connected with the French tea company l'Âge de Thé and serve all of their blends. They also have breakfast pastries, savory food at lunch & dinner, lots of cakes, tarts, and other desserts, and full afternoon tea....

P.S. Never mind about Bosie. L'Âge de Thé doesn't stock any Assams or Ceylons & that's what interests me.

Tonight, there was a dessert of coconut, rhubarb, and black olive. Obvious in its execution how innovation and experiment, when introduced for their own sake, are annoying. --irnscrabblechf52, May 9, 2013

I thought about you the other day when I was in Tea Source buying several ounces of Breakfast Assam which is sort of our house tea. I ordered a cup of cooked (black) Puerh which I had never had before. It comes in a cake that looks like peat and has some peaty flavors and is very smooth. Might be worth investigating their selection of these teas if you are placing orders from them.Small world! I had found Tea Source just a couple months ago while doing a Net search for new sources of Ceylon Vithanakanda, and already had them bookmarked. Nice to have the personal recommendation.
They have some interesting Assam varieties, too, which is always a big plus for me. I expect I will be trying them soon.

I never got around to trying Tea Source, since Upton's temporary drought of good Assams ended. Just looked at the Tea Source website & I'm still impressed by their selection. They have a booth at the Union Sq. Holiday Market. I didn't examine their wares closely a/c the Saturday crowds. Which reminds me.....New place on UWS - Spices and Tease on Bway btw 97 and 98. They sell spices and tea blends. Haven't bought anything there yet.

They've been at the markets for a while. Their offerings aren't bad. For better or worse, they're replacing Penzey's in the Grand Central Market.New place on UWS - Spices and Tease on Bway btw 97 and 98. They sell spices and tea blends. Haven't bought anything there yet.
