In his heart of hearts I think Bernamoff thinks he's doing NYers a favor by serving us his sandwiches. I'm not sure if that attitude will be successful in winning hearts and minds.

His target audience only knows Katz's from the time their mom made them watch her favorite Rom Com on family night back in Shaker Heights.

They aren't invested in Katz's being the best- whether it is or isn't just isn't very important to them the way it is to you.

David's or Katz's, the idea that an outsider had to save NY Deli isn't problematic to them.

(I usually use Joe Beef [along with a host of others] as an illustration that what a number of NYC restaurants are doing such as Roberta's, Ssam, and Torissi are doing that is considered at least very similar to what others are doing elsewhere - they're all part of the same broad chef crew off to the Finland Station or whatever)
