Tulsi is big news.

Cool. Sorry if it's already mentioned above, but does anyone know the price for the tasting menu? I don't see it on the website.

Had an excellent lunch here yesterday with another MFF poster. The room was empty when we arrived, couldn't have been more than 15% full when we left. Nothing to add on the food, but my meal was big enough for two lunches at $33 w/tax and tip - very very reasonable for the quality and the location I thought. Am absolutely going back for dinner in the next few weeks.

We were comped an order of Naan and the Chutney Plate.

According to Grub Street:

a seven-course tasting menu, launching next month ($65, $95 with paired wines, vegetarian option available);

$5 for naan?
$10 for daal?
$5 for plain rice?
$10 for a trio of rice, which I'm guessing are the three thimble-fulls they served at Devi?
I hope the $5 for yogurt or pickles comes with some of that $5 naan.

Sheeeeee-yit.

It's a short walk to Sixth Street from your place.

I'll definitely go, but those prices are absurd, for items that should be free. I'm guessing that the bread at Del Posto is gratis. (Although I recall that Chang charges $7 or something for bread and butter.)

Edit: Seriously, is there any Western restaurant in New York charging those prices that does not provide a basket of bread/rolls/etc., which are probably more time consuming and expensive to make than naan and plain rice?

I dunno, Stone, how much Indian food do you eat? When I lived in the EV the decent places, including my go-to, Haveli, charged for the naan. As does Bombay Talkie in Chelsea

I haven't eaten a lot of Indian lately, and when I do, it's usually a buffet. Yes, I know they charge for naan, but my recollection is that it's usually $1.95. Perhaps $5 is now standard. But they're also not charging $25 for entrees.

Seriously, I don't eat at high-end places as often as most people do and, yes, I'm cheap. Do any charge for bread?

I can't think of any midtown Indian that doesn't charge for rice, bread, dal, etc. At nearby Bukhara Grill, rice (enough for two or three) is $8, and most breads are $5
