they are not. They are sunchokes/jersualem artichokes/topinambour. Similar uses, total different plants.I bet they're not. Am I being stupid?

You shouldn't have let on. I would love to have known the reaction if Wilfrid had cooked and eaten them as if they were crosnes.
I thought about that too, but I wouldn't want to be responsible for his velvet jacket getting stained while he's peeling them.

And at least I am not going mad, as I am sure I've never used fresh turmeric before. Grate it, like horsradish? Good for arthritis, anyway.
