All the reviews I've seen seemed positive at first but then on closer inspection turned out to have been written as to not offend the chef. The subtext seemed to be that much of the food is bland and it's not all about ingredients after all. High on my list of places to try despite the unlikely location.
I never said that

Hmmm. Not in the ones I've read including Hayler. Who are you reading?

It was quite good. I went during the first week of full operation. A few of the courses were excellent. The products, though, were sensational. I have never had a better sourced squab, and it was cooked to perfection. We ate well in London this time. Along with Hedone, we had stunning dinners at The Ledbury, Roganic and The Square. Also some excellent dinners at The Bull & Last and The Harwood Arms. And, on our last night in the UK, a spectacular dinner (the tasting menu) at The Sportsman.

On the one hand that's SO far away from where I'll be.

On the other hand, fuck that sounds good.

It is quite good. I will return. But, then again, I'll also return to Agape Substance in Paris. In any case, on my next UK visit, I'll again have dinners at Hedone, The Ledbury, Roganic and The Sportsman. Each is fabulous, on many levels.

Oh, I don't object to Agape Substance. It looks great.

I just object to its name, especially in conjunction with the color blanche.

My mind is basically in the gutter, is all.

So you'd also say The Sportsman is worth the schlepp (which I believe is the British term for a long trip)?

If left-hand drive didn't really freak out my husband, we'd be there in a heartbeat. I've been checking out trains from London and car hire from Folkestone. At some point...

Does anyone know an easy transfer from either London (combined with Hedone) or the coast?

Absolutely. It's not so rigorous if you take a train from Victoria to Whitstable then a short taxi ride to the Restaurant. If you go, make sure to order the tasting menu when you secure a reservation.

I went to Hedone last night -- the first new restaurant in London that I have really enjoyed for a while. Flashes of brilliance,
and superb ingredients. An onsen egg with girolles was superb, and some wonderfully aged and fatty beef.
