I do love a list. This is mostly good. The Station Cafe is the place I had to duck a bar stool one New Year's Day morning.
Here's a few I do not count as dives:
The White Horse
Milady's
Heather's (unless it's changed a lot)
Clem's
The Dublin House (quite grand)
Frank's (it's different, but it's not a dive)
Fake dives:
169 Bar (used to be a real dive, now pretending)
B-Side
Double Down
Goodbye Blue Monday (totally artsy)
7B
11th Street Bar
O'Connor's (old, but proud
Billymark's West (definitely fake in conception, but turning into be a real dive)
And as much for my own reference as anything else, bars I haven't visited (yet):
A Touch of Dee (Harlem - wow, looks great)
Vega Alta (The Bronx)
Tip-Top (Bed-Stuy - been on my list for a while)
Ipanema (Chelsea)
Turkey's Nest (BillyBurg)
Stacks Tavern (Riverdale)
Gotham City Lounge (haven't been myself, but stories of burlesque dancers performing on the pool table are very convincing)
Crehan's (Astoria)
43/50 is pretty good going. It's not a comprehensive list by any means.
Lex, we've been to Mr McGoo's, right?

I don't recall hitting McGoo's but if it was our final stop that might explain it.
I've been to the Turkey's Nest many times - you get soigne treatment if you go with a regular.
Timboo's, which is inexplicably absent from the list, was a stop on the Great Brooklyn Dive Bar Crawl a few years ago.
I was glad to see they listed the Red Hook trifecta, Bait & Tackle, Ice House, and Sunny's.

There are plenty of major omissions, but then it's a very big subject.
The Distinguished Wakamba Bar and Lounge
Farrell's Bar and Grill ("grill," ha)
Denny's Steak Pub
Manitoba's
Lit Lounge
...and countless others.
A lifetime's study. Not to say life-shortening.

I've made a number of recent visits to the Double Windsor, a very pleasant bar that sits diagonally across the intersection from Farrell's. I think of you every time I gaze over. You really must go back there and tell me all about it.
