High 60s, breezy, brilliant sunshine all day. Just the right kind of day for a football game, or a cookout, or a pleasant walk. I chose the third.
Trees are already changing colors, maybe 20% so far. Strong winds last night brought down a few branches and a lot of leaves. Sometime this week I'll have to look into raking them, cleaning the gutters, etc. Maybe later this week. Maybe get the snow blower out and fire it up. I usually run it every few weeks during the Summer, and charge the spark plug and oil before the snows arrive.

The heater is on even though the house got weatherized over the past two weeks. We are quite a bit more cozy.
Some pretty spectacular leaves on the sidewalks and streets, but few trees aflame. Squirrels are still busy, most of the yard is put to bed.

I guess fall clean-up will wait until spring.

Ditto for Poughkeepsie.
I guess fall clean-up will wait until spring.
the forecast for snow is increasing by the hour...
8 to 14 inches in the northern and western NY suburbs
that's a lot for October.

ETA: it is now 33 degrees F. And the snow has let up; mostly just freezing rain.
ETA2: Thunder, too, at 1:18.

Tonight, there was a dessert of coconut, rhubarb, and black olive. Obvious in its execution how innovation and experiment, when introduced for their own sake, are annoying. --irnscrabblechf52, May 9, 2013

38 degrees F and snow is blowing sideways outside my windows
The snow is coming down at a pretty rapid clip in western Essex County NJ right now. Our elevation is about 400 feet, so we'll see more snow, earlier than some other areas.
At 11am, there was a mix of snow and rain, but by 12 noon there was a half inch of slush and dense snow falling.
ETA @ 2.40pm
wind is howling, several decent sized branches have come down in the yard. electric wires and many branches are drooping.
visibility is down to a few hundred feet.
I brought up a fresh supply of wood for the fireplace, and I mixed up a few gallons of gasoline blend for the snow blower. With a decent supply of Calvados, I'm set for a while

Guess I ought to go bring snow shovels up from the shed.

Weather Underground is forecasting 6-10 inches of snow for tonight in NY.
Quite Possibly.
We're at the six inch mark already, and about 20 miles west of you. The snow has resumed at a prodigious rate now, following a short respite.
