very disappointing imprompru meal in the city location yesterday. kitchen and pizza guys don't communicate at all. the food - warm apps & pizza - came out at the same time, with predictable results. crust softer than i remember from the Brooklyn location, which i liked when i ate there last year. a fried pizza with ham, mushroom & smoked mozzarella badly needed salt, any seasoning. heavy handed with cheese too. best thing we had was the eggplant parmigiana.
some of the staff is nice and accommodating but if I hadn't had good pizza at the Brooklyn location last year i could easily believe it's all hype and all BS.
i looked at the Times review - unfortunately, after our meal - and had to laugh. the end bit about the pizza man's mug on the postcard handed with the check and the man himself seen in the restaurant but nowhere the pizza oven is still true.

That was the case when we were there too (and we went with someone who's practically his doppelganger)
I saw they opened a LES location that only serves fried pizza.

I never said that

we needed a quick bite between a meeting and a wine tasting in the area and figured this would have been easier to get in and out than Il Buco Alimentari, and the pizza (in Brooklyn) was good. i so wish we had gone to Il Buco, even for a sandwich to go. oh well, live and learn.
the LES place must do a brisk biz with all the watering holes in the area. West Village & Chelsea Artichoke's margherita pizza come in handy every now and then for that reason.
