It seems to me the Times has got this completely upside down. Generally speaking, nobody insists that eating animals is right, any more than they insist that going on holiday or watching movies is right. The question is whether it is ethically permissible. And there are so many competing reasons for not eating animals, one doesn't really know where to start when the question is posed so unrestrictedly.

but to be absolutely sure of his deliciousness, you should pen him and feed him acorns for a few weeks before slaughter. i do not think a free range bittman would be as tenderI want to eat Mark Bittman. I'm sure after he ran around Spain with Batali feasting on ham and pork that he's delicious.

No, no, no: he's only vegan up until 6:00 PM. Or at least that was his schtick a while ago. And I'm sure that on that trip through Spain the guys were more likely to try seeing Claudia Bassols naked than each other. Or Goop.
