I don't know how loud the bar will get late at night, but this is of interest to anyone who - like me - attends late events in the East Village/LES. The kitchen claims to be open until 3.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

I keep insisting you don't have to be Jewish to like the composed plates at Mile End.

is this a place only for "straight men" who lead secret gay lives?
Wouldn't it be sort of self defeating?

could you imagine all the wives and private detectives lined up outside, at closing time, with flash cameras and visions of hefty divorce settlements dancing in their heads. But seriously - unless it actually is going for the "guys on the DL" demographic you'd think someone would have figured this one out ahead of time?

But I used to drink in a bar called Lava Gina, so I am fairly inured.

My question too, when I saw the name.

Not necessarily. Although the Rouge et Blanc folks did realize the "Le Cinq à Sept" might not be the best name for a restaurant either.
