Great time at Film Forum yesterday afternoon. I think it's fun to watch something like this with an audience - especially all Manhattan's Carmen Miranda fans - but worth a rental too. It's Carmen in full pomp with her "Tutti Frutti" hat, hundreds of girls with suggestive bananas, Benny Goodman crooning, and a wonderfully cynical and hard-nosed "romantic" plot.
Excellent use of 103 minutes.

If I recall, it starts in black and white, but it quickly works its way into vivid Technicolor.
I'd give it all up, for just a little bit more.

The Tutti Frutti Hat sequence has to be seen to be believed. It's all bizarre but when the Dance of the Giant Bananas begins at around 3:45 it enters another dimension.

The technicolor is indeed vivid, and worth seeing on a biggish screen.
The banana xylophone is marvelous.
