Lunch on a Weekday, something reasonably accessible by car from Rye and by public transportation from Manhattan. The chowhound-ier the better.

Go.

I haven't been myself but Eatmywords had kind things to say about this place. I've seen it written up on CH as well.

While feigning indifference, eatmywords and his wife always made this place sound pretty great. (Of course, he has too much pride to post about it.)

Unfortunately, it's probably equally inconvenient to both Rye and public transportation.

I post this mainly cuz I'm dying to go.

Another option - Louie & Ernie's Pizza

Another place I've not been to but have heard plenty of nice things about.

why not port chester, which is quite accessible via metro north?

i haven't been there in years, but there was at least one excellent mexican restaurant (name escapes me), and q bbq was also very good and appears to still be open.

eta: mexican restaurant was called 'los gemelos' - i think they are still open but i haven't been since at least 2006. as for it being 'chowhoundy', i got there via a jim leff rec

Gosh, you can go to a Batali/Bastianich place in Port Chester.

JUST what Bonner is looking for, I'll bet.

We haven’t been to Momma Lucia’s in a long time. It was our local place when we lived in Silver Beach across the street. The fresh pastas, tripe stew and other specials, byo, honest yet horrible floor service and a screaming kitchen made it special. But yea, without a car probably not worth it. You’d have to take the 6 to Westchester Sq and transfer to the BX40 almost to the end of the line. It’s a hike.

The Vietnamese place is a good call - just yards from the subway. My wife refuses that area at night (esp with the kiddie) but lunch is fine. Parking might be a challenge but I’ve only been on a wknd so it sh/be ok.

Louie and Ernie’s is one of the best regular/electric oven pizzas (plain margarita) you’ll experience anywhere. It drools Bronx kitch with writeups and yankee stuff adorning the walls and it has a patio/garden out back. It is a many blocks from the 6- Buhre Ave but the Bx8 connects.

Also mentioned previously - just under the 6 train at Castle Hill stop, Estrelita Poblano (We like this one for dining but we get delivery from the Westchester Sq branch which is just as capable and very close to the 6). The enchiladas verde (pollo) green sc is incredible and spicy. The soft tacos; chipotle chicken, goat and tongue are musts.

A few blocks away the chowdarling Bangladeshi, Neerob which is very kick ass. Lamb biryani, assorted fish curries and chicken samosas not to be missed. Gd luck.

A Victor has been Declared. You may stop answering my questions. Thank You.

We shall be lunching at Neerob,

The Jerome Ave options came in a very close second and a theoretical lunch planned for there as we get later into the summer.

Some of my earliest memories are of sitting in a stroller watching the Jerome Avenue el come and go. Apparently it was my favorite thing to do at that point in my life.

Now I post on foodboards.

The above required reading before you go (although, knowing you, you've already read them all). Actually, I just figured it'd be good to have them as a convenient reference point for the future. Since I haven't yet made it there, I'd like a full report please.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Don’t forget the naans. Garlic and onion both very nice. Order on arrival as they can take a while. Did I mention the chicken samossas? (yes) Super duper must must try.

Also, to the very right of the steam table are a row of small bowls filled with various chutney and stewed veggie-herb concoctions. These condis are the concentrated essence of the cuisine and great with the naan/rice for a $1 a pop. Look for the (tall) owner, Rahman. He loves curious westeners.

Neerob was great. Rahman was very very helpful.

Our next lunch is planned for a Borek place off Fordham Rd near the Zoo.
