Mark's Gourmet Burgers441 Myrtle Ave
(718) 875-2525

Perhaps I should have just emailed this write up to Aaron but, I guess I will share too. While this place is a decent burger, it is certainly not worth traveling too far. It's a really good neighborhood spot..

This place has literally been open for 5 days now. We went last night to grab a couple of burgers and we were very impressed. Burgers are made to order, they grind their own beef in house, I love their brioche buns. They hand cut their own fries and make their own sweet onion rings. What's not to enjoy?

Fries were seriously delicious as was the guava lemonade. Prices are very reasonable.

It's a tiny place with perhaps 6 two tops and a counter that seat perhaps 10 people.

Mark was their last night banging out burgers ,coming out of the kitchen introducing himself. You can tell a lot of care has gone into the things. There is no doubt he is a chef has a very high skill level. Even working within the confines of a burger place there are chef'y touches everywhere..

There is an array of different aiolis to choose from, on the table they provide vinegar flavored with rosemary and garlic. Fresh lettuces on the burger, there was some type of arugala mix. They offer fish and chips, fried fish sandwiches, there is a salmon patty mixed with both fresh and smoked salmon.

If I can make one complaint, it is the salt issue they have. They are using this super light and flaky salt. It does not really add much flavor to the fries or onion rings we tried. I tried the fries and felt the kitchen either did not salt them or waaaay under salted them so, when I tried to apply my own salt to the fries, this flaky light crap came out of the shaker.

I wish them a lot of luck. I don't think they are going to need it.

Mark's Burgers is in the old Polish Spot. Mark, also use to work at the Speakeasy and Grand Dakar. I see that there is a salmon burger on the menu that has smoked and fresh salmon. I wonder if that is the same burger from Grand Dakar. Miss K liked that.

Ceilo, I have walked passed many times. There always seems to be people inside but, not customers. I asked the guy the other night and he was like, well, we were open for friends and family but, we are going to be open any day. Then last night, all the lights were on and just two guys were sitting at the bar while, all the other stools are up. But, from what I see, it is going to be more of a club and lounge. Not too exciting for me, by the looks of it..

I heard the guy who owns WTF and used to own the sneaker place say that he was opening a few bars in the neighborhood, I wonder if Ceilo is one of them. the half open/not really a for profit business makes me think dude is involved.

if it's a lounge I don't care at all.

Oh, oh. I didn't know if you were aware of Dick and Janes. I see the guy from time to time, i will ask him next time. In other neighborhood news. The guy that owns Der Shvartz Kolner , Dale, told me he was opening a place called, De Kolner which was going to be a huge bar and open pit grill type place but, I have not seen that dude in like 6 months.

I haven't seen him in a while either. I take my daughter to their playgroup sometimes and he's never there. I think I see his wife most times.

I bet the outdoor beer hall on Myrtle and Classon will be available soon.

I really wish there was a better bar scene in clinton hill/ft. greene/bed stuy upon williamsburg. there's a few places that have ok tap lists but nothing like the stuff you can find in park slope or williamsburg. if the WTF guy opens a place that approaches beer the way that WTF approaches coffee I'll be pretty stoked.

In other news on that place.. I yelped a review of that place and then the chef emailed me back and was really dicky.. But, then, he emailed me again after I responded and he must have been polluted because he like let loose and poured his heart out to me. He told me that they forced him to use frozen food and he was embarrassed that he had to cook there.. He told me he was leaving and I then saw him on the subway the other day looking super banged up. So, i think he is out at the place. That open beer garden place sucks.

It still looks like Der Kolner is a real upcoming thing, from the way people at my end of our neighborhoods talk about it.

I'll repeat how funny it is that he ends up with Der Kolner and his former partner ends up with Der Schwartze Kolner.

the beer hall has the feel of a doomed business. I'm surprised they even have someone with the title chef. the beer list is pretty clearly the 30 cheapest things you can get that aren't mass market beers.

dale is a nice guy, at least the few times I've spoken to him.

will the Kolner be in prospect heights?

the beer place on washington changed hands and is no longer full of old beer. the selection is limited, but the people are nice and will probably offer more stuff if/when the business takes off.
