If one believes that embryos acquire a soul/achieve personhood at conception it's not clear what there is for them to learn.

That not all stem cells come from dead babies?

Does anyone object to the use of non-fetal stem cells?

Yes. The people that think all stem cells come from dead babies.

But they're not objecting to the use of non-fetal stem cells.

Arthritis bothering me so much yesterday I had to sit down in Columbus Park and pretend to be interested in mah-jong.

Home! I don't care if it's cold and snowy--I'm just glad to be home. If Kitty were here, it would be even better!

And I'm having a tin of Portuguese sardines for dinner (with stoned wheat thins). Portuguese sardines always make me happy. :)

And the taxi driver who took me home turned out to be one of my neighbours! He was going to drive me for free, but I told him "Business is business," and I paid.

Oh, and I got my tax return while I was gone. I ended up getting a refund that was 5x the amount I had thought I was getting because they added in unused tax credits from previous years. Yay me!

Rhythm Revue, Saturday mornings 10-2, WBGO 88.3. Well-known & deep soul/R&B cuts from all over the timestream spun by Felix Hernandez. (Good jazz at other times.)

Reggae Schoolroom, Sunday mornings 9-12, WFMU 91.1. Jeff Sarge always brightens up my Sundays.

Radio is not dead. :)

Try Twine Time on Friday nights with Paul Ray. I believe 7 to 11 pm. KUT-FM 90.5, Austin. I think you might enjoy it.

WKCR (89.9) has a similar R&B show from noon to 2:00 on Saturday, called "Across 110th Street." The student DJs are nothing like Felix, but the music was pretty good.

A new temperature-controlled tea kettle. Now I can have the proper 185-degree water for my green and white teas. :)

We bought 4 bottles of Kosher for Passover aka "made with sugar" Coke last night. And, it was only $.99/bottle.

I just found out from my answering machine that I finally got the job! I can't talk much about it, but I began the process last November, and have only just been cleared for duty. I start April 10 which gives my current plenty-o-time to find a replacement (though they probably won't even be able to post the position until after I've left. . . oh the joys of a unionized workplace).

The newish wine-and-liquor store that opened last December, a half-block from my house. For those of you who frequent this neighborhood, it's on Nassau Street between Beekman and Ann. I can't speak to the wine prices, but they carry some neat spirits--Tito's Handmade Vodka, for example.
