Okay, I have returned from an early informal dinner here and am a little in my cups

Sampled:

Pemaquid Oysters

NE Clam Chowder

Fried Oysters

Lobster Roll

Liquor, liquor, liquor

The oysters were from Maine, very large, very flavorful and very fresh. The mignonette was very nice with the right amount of minced shallots but I don't put anything on my oysters but a squeeze of lemon. A+

Clam Chowder was nice and NOT thick and very baconny, maybe too much so. The clam flavor was somewhat overwhelmed by the bacon flavor which might please fantasty  but really needed balancing B+

Fried oysters were good but the variety they used were somewhat too small for frying if you want to retain the oysterly goodness B+

Lobster Roll had great chunks of wonderfully fresh and succulent (a new word we should introduce Bruni to) lobster but had the usual too much mayo. Still very tasty and on a good roll A-

Liquor: what can I say?

All in all, I had a very good time only 1 1/2 blocks from home. This may become my new hangout especially if I have an early day and can get there by 5:30.

I'm a happy girl

Since I didn't order them (I was going to but the lobster roll came with fries and the bar gratis food was Cape Cod Sea Salt and Vinegar Potato Chips, a fave, and so I was pretty full after the lobster roll) I can't say for sure. But... since I am not in my right mind  I think I'll just give them a call right now and find out.

Wait hold on. The downstairs is open but the more upscale upstairs isn't yet - right?

I don't know for sure. When I just called the recording (for hold) was talking about upstairs. I wouldn't say with certainty either open or not up there.

downstairs only for now..

no reservations..

the rawbar is great.. last thursday laurent was having dinner with eric ripert, the sous chef from bouley, and i think alain ducasse.. marcus samuelson was on his way over around 12:30, and jean george's assistant called late to say he wouldn't make it.. they ate shellfish and ripert got hit on hard core by a table of drunk girls..

it's been crowded, lot of fashion/pr folk..

They open at 5:30. The bar was fairly quiet. The help was nice. You know how I LOVE glitz and glam (feh). 5:30 's the ticket.

what did the sous chef from bouley look like because i just talked to one of them today and they didn't say anything. Unless it was the chef de cuisine?
