Anything west of Ninth Avenue, between south side of 60th and north side of 34th. Alternatively, view this as a test to see who can come up with the best spelling of those Mexican joints on Tenth.

I'll throw in Starwich on 42nd for upmarket bespoke sandwiches.

Azuri, on 51st near the corner of 10th, does some lovely pita sandwiches. Hummus, falafel, etc., topped with pickled beets and cukes.

And isn't the branch of Sullivan Street bakery open on 47th between 10th & 11th? Nice for a slice of their pizza squares and a Cinotto.

I'd be remiss to neglect Little Pie Company, on 42nd between 10th & 9th. Their apple crumb (this was before I graduated to the hard stuff = pure crumb) got me through the last few months of pregnancy.
“And another thing. You don't have to "move on" either. Not until you're ready. People say, Oh, you should be grateful. They say, Oh, it's time for you to move on. I'm like, What are you, a cop with a nightstick? I'll move on when I'm done playing the blues on my harmonica, thank you very much.

Really, people will tell you all kinds of garbage. Don't believe it.

You don't have to move on until you're ready.”

Taboon for mediterranian food and good homemade flat breads. (52/10th)

Ruby et Violet for wonderful cookies with interesting flavors (51?/10)

Queen of Sheba for ethiopian (10th in 40s)

10th avenue lounge- friendly gay bar with great bathrooms and good music (10th in 40s)

I have heard that Landmark Tavern on 11th had a great whiskey selection, but according nymetro.com it has closed.

Little Pie Company is on 43rd, near Good Enough to Eat.

I like Market Cafe on 9th between 37th & 38th.

it's called kashkaval between 55th and 56th. they don't list fondue on their takeout menu they just list cheese or meat plates. haven't been yet but a friend went and enjoyed it which is not very useful information, I know.

The Landmark opened in 1868, making it one of the half dozen oldest bars in the city, and it offered not only a fine selection of single malts (and tasting evenings) but also scotch eggs. If this is true, it's horrific - Tamar, did you read that it had closed, or were you just not finding it by searching?

I agree. Not sazing that much, but at least it's good enough for sitting in the garden with beer and wursten.

I read it on the new york metro website, and I just called the number and it's disconnected.

NY Daily News nominates the Skylite Diner for its best diner in Manhattan. Three point five stars on a four star scale

Best in Manhattan: Skylight Diner

402 W. 34th St., at Ninth Ave.; (212) 244-0395

Generous portions, an excellent grilled burger with crisp fries, fresh-tasting tuna salad and an exceptional cinnamon-dusted, vanilla-flavored rice pudding make this diner one that merits return visits. And did we mention the really good service?

Diners Article
"Peter Kiewit looked for three things in hiring people. He looked for integrity, intelligence and energy. And he said if a person didn’t have the first…that the latter two would kill him. Because if they don’t have integrity, you want ‘em dumb and lazy. You don’t want ‘em smart and energetic.”
