Wasn't aware it existed. Any good?
No. It's a fun space though - and walking distance from my house. I hope something good goes in there.
Evidently it's been sold.
Rumor has it...
Confirmed.
SeaGal and I checked out The Publican (place holder web site for now) last night.
As expected, they have a good beer selection. They also have a large Whisk(e)y and Tequila list. The bartender was very eager to make good cocktails and they were definitely better than average. We shared a scotch egg, which was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to order again. We also split a burger which I really liked and the fries were great. We also split the "breakfast salad" with bacon and a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg. I'm super happy to have it within walking distance.
I've been back quite a few times since they opened and they keep getting better and better. For the record, after a kerfuffle with Publican in Chicago, they are now called The Burgundian Tavern. We went with some friends last Friday. There were a few tables open when we got there at 6:30. By 7:30 there was a line for a table. By the time we left at 9:00 it had quieted down a bit. They are primarily a beer and whisk(e)y place but the also make a fine martini. Their wine list (if you can call 5 or so options a list) is lacking. Paul had the steak frite for dinner, which he's had before and really likes. Their fries are so good! I had the breakfast salad with the optional duck confit. It's pretty spendy at $16 but you get two duck legs for that price. The service is fantastic. I just hope it doesn't get so busy that we can't get a table...

We tried the Cuban (pulled pork, caramelized onions, pickles, mayo, mustard) - $6.39 and the Banh Mi with pork (pork, cilantro sauce, pickles, mayo) - $6.39 and the truffled potato salad. Both sandwiches used the same braised pork, if we had know that, we would have tried the banh mi with beef. Regardless, I'd give these a pass. The bread had the right texture but seemed to have cheese in it. The meat was bland. The Cuban was okay but there was no kick to the bahn mi. It needed jalapenos and fresh cilantro at the very least. Neither of us tasted any truffle in the potato salad and it was under seasoned. Don't bother.

Cupcake Royale Ice Creamery 108 Pine Street Open 8am - 10pm ...Right now it's a street cart in front of the bricks n' mortar store while they remodel the place. That's a good business plan.
Far Eats 2301 5th Ave (between Battery & Bell) ...Indian restaurant
Fusion World Food Service 1046 Jackson Street ...I'm not an FB kind-of-guy and I don't think I need to be to see what they do, but I'm confused.
Meaty Johnson's 421 1st Avenue South at Cowgirls INC. ...BBQ brisket or pulled pork sandwich, BBQ ribs, and BBQ chicken with meats from Don Draper Valley, Painted Hills, and Carlton Farms. I think I need to check this place out.
The Great Seattle Wheel ...(I know my adjectives are misaligned on what they're calling it but The Great Seattle Wheel sounds better to my ear than The Seattle Great Wheel.) Not food related but it's a 42-bucket Ferris wheel opening June 29. How can you not spread the word. Tickets for 12 and over $13, else $8.50.
Trophy Cupcakes and Party Pacific Place ...When did cupcakes become the new elegant, decadent, luxury?

Coming in September to Queen Anne: Mezcaleria Oaxaca
Five of us went here after seeing Batman at the IMAX at the Pacific Science Center (which I highly recommend).
The space is long and skinny with the front area taken up mostly by the bar, with a few tables along the side and in the front. They also have a few tables outside. The back room is made up with a long communal table and individual tables along the sides.
We got there at 7:30 and had a 10 minute wait for a table, which gave us enough time to start with a cocktail at the bar. I had their mezcalerita, a margarita with a float of mezcal, and loved it. Others started with a regular margarita and then ordered the mezcal one as their second. It was really good. For my second cocktail I tried something with "tequila caliente" in it. Wowza! Was it ever spicy! I liked it but I had to drink it very slowly.
We started with an order of chips and guac and an order of chips and refried beans. Both were really good. Paul tried their coctel de camarones which had chile, lime and avocado flavor but used crappy bay shrimp.
Of the mains, the barbacoa de cabrito was definitely the best. It's served with a bean and masa mixture that was really good. Two people had the mole enchiladas and one had the mole tamales. Both dishes were quite sweet. I'm not familiar with Oaxacan cuisine so I don't know if that's traditional but I didn't care for it. All the entrees needed salt.
Someone ordered the flan for dessert. I had a bite and it was really good. Not as gelatin-y as I usually get with flan.

Hardly new, but never mentioned here becore that I can find, I serendipitously ended up at Harissa Mediterranean Cuisine over in Ravenna last night and had a lovely meal.
My friends raved over the kebabs of which in addition to the usual meats they offer salmon and a couple of other scary fishy thingsI went all-appetizer all-the-time and I have to say their babaganoush gives cafe munir a run for its money - beautifully smokey with a hint of pomegranate juice in the background. the house made pita, reminiscent of naan, is served warm and topped with sumac, so good! The eggplant "salad" was more of another dip than a salad, but a lovely light flavor and surprisingly different from the baba... I really enjoyed the pronounced chick pea flavor of the hummous, but others may want more tahini than this. the labne was a dangerously good garlicy cheese spread. I'm told the bakalava is good too. Well worth a stop if you're in the area, espcially if the German restaurant across the street isn't honoring their published hours, say...
And yet very timely for the farewell and welcome thread, as they just took over the old Karam's (shudder) space on 15th in Capitol Hill as well.

But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's dissapointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathize with her, but thinks that he should warn her
That the Thirld World is just around the corner

I guess this is old news, but I heard today that Campagne is no longer. Daisley closed it in February for a remodel and decided to dump the fine dining theme. They're going to open as Marche... from opentable...
Marché serves food inspired by the tradition of French bistros, highlighting seasonal, full-flavored robust food and wines exceptional in value and quality. Rustic and modern, familiar and exotic, elegant and relaxed, at Marche you will be able to share wine and food in a convivial atmosphere. Your curiosity and sense of adventure will be satisfied. Both drinks and provisions are offered with flexibility. A wide array of wines by the glass along with a sumptuous variety of large and small plates is available. Traditionally, a town’s center included its market. It was a place to share the news of the day, discover new things, see and be seen. Expanding this idea, Executive Chef - Owner, and Iron Chef America Challenger, Daisley Gordon, shares his table and his love of great wine and delicious food. Over a glass and a nibble, we plan to connect, converse and celebrate life’s everyday moments and the momentous ones as well.
And don't confuse this with Marche on Bainbridge, also to open soon, under the hand, eye, and taste of Greg Atkinson.
That's the one I'm really looking forward to trying.
I haven't been to Campagne for 15+ years, not since the time the waitress took my order, then returned a few minutes later because she just wanted to make sure I knew what pate was.
I've been for HH once before, but this time we were too late for HH and had cocktails and nibbles from their regular menu.
Of course we had the fried confit duck gizzards, which were fantastic again. We also had the frites, which weren't limp but the aioli tasted more like yogurt than mayonnaise. Also again we had the pork hock terrine which was fabulous this time. Chunky and porky goodness. New items we tried were the beef tongue, which was very dry and disappointing and, the star of the night, the pickle plate. These were some of the best pickles I've had in a long time. Pickled on the plate were peaches, cucumbers, peppers, cherries, yellow beans and tomatoes. I'm sure there are other items I'm forgetting. Some were spicy, some were sweet (but not too sweet) and some were tangy. It was a great assortment.
I had a very nice Red Hook cocktail and a martini made with a gin the bartender recommended which I can not remember the name of! We sat outside and it was lovely. The restaurant was empty the entire time we were there, from 6:00 until 8:30.
