“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Broiled bluefish
creamed spinach
roasted asparagus
salad (sherry vinegar-walnut oil dressing)
Okay, dessert wasn't from the Greenmarket:
Peeled sliced oranges, reassembled and macerated in a sprinkle of cinnamon-sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice, served with cardamom-flavored pudding made from Chinese take-out leftover rice.

Saturday was Opening Day (boating season) AND Cinco de Mayo AND Derby Day. We watched the Derby on our friends boat and drank tequila juleps. Way to cram all the celebrations in there!
Last night Paul grilled the last of the country style pork ribs we had bought and I made coconut rice with edamame to go with it.

First course steak tartare
Second course- scallop cooked in it's shell with a cube of bacon and a soy butter sauce topped with crispy shallot jelly.
Third Course- soft shell crab cooked in butter, served over fried goat cheese ravioli with pickled ginger beets.
Fourth Course- fried sweetbreads with cauliflower, uni flan topped with uni, sauce gribiche and pickled peppers.
Fifth Course- Sliced duck breast with grilled pineapple, seared foie gras and a cherry demi glace.
Last Course-chomeur pudding with a marscapone lemon granita.
It was a pretty amazing dinner. Was really happy to be able to do this for him and his new bride.

Bite Club was fortunate to cook the rehearsal dinner for one of my oldest and dearest friends wedding.. The large group of people came to my house where we cooked them a dinner.

Deep-dish vegetable pie.
What was the filling? and the crust?
i made one recently with cabbage and hard boiled eggs using the pizza dough Alex made for the grilled pizza (it has some whole wheat flour):

The filling had parsnips, onions, garlic, leeks, carrots, and I forgot what else, in a gravy that had a touch of cornstarch. The top crust was just Pepperidge Farms puff pastry (no bottom crust).
Last night's dinner was coq au vin served over thin noodles, using a stewing hen we got from our CSA.

Today was just me, made spiral pasta with zucchini (shaved on the mandoline, salted, squeezed), feta, lemon peel and chili. Baby liked the pasta too, but she got it plain.
