Come one, come all! Step right up and see the amazing Eggs Benedict crawl!

An eggs benedict crawl?! Ludicrous! Heart stopping! How are you going to eat that many eggs bene in one sitting?

Tomorrow morning, Saturday August 20, Margaret and I are going to embark on an eggs benedict crawl. No, we're not going to eat eggs bene until we explode. This will be a progressive crawl. We'll sample one eggs bene at a time on no particular schedule looking for the King of Hollandaise, the Prince of Poached Eggs, the best damn eggs benedict we can find. First stop is tomorrow morning at the 35th St Bistro at 10 AM, anyone who wants to join is more than welcome.

You *gotta* go to Glo's. If you call ahead, you can put your name on the list. But go as early as you can.

Last time scrat and I went to Maximilien for brunch, she had the oeuffs rothchilds which is basically eggs bene with a side of steak. Very tasty.
It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline
But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's dissapointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathize with her, but thinks that he should warn her
That the Thirld World is just around the corner

Where else do you think you'll be going? I read on Seattle Bon Vivant that she likes The Dish Cafe in Ballard, and posted a nice looking pic of their eggs bennie on her Blog.

Anything Benedict! Sorry that this is an east coast thing, but I had a most amazing dish recently for lunch that was fried oysters with poached eggs on top and hollandaise on the side. Someone in Seattle ought to be able to re-create that.

mmmm. That sounds good! Thank you for the idea. I would have never thought of that combo, although I have had them topped with dungeness crab, and they are great that way, too. My brother loves Hangtown Fry w/ oysters.

Baby, you can get fried oysters on this coast. Any month of the year, because the water is cold. (You mean "breaded and fried," I assume?)

My two favorite things in the world are poached eggs and fried oysters. Imagine me walking into this unassuming place and having that for brunch. Next time, I order a double. It was that good.

We need to find some less worthy eggs benedict. The 35th St Bistro eggs bene was amazing, and if we use it for a baseline we're going to be miserable. Sorry, Margaret and I are space cases and forgot to take a camera, but trust us it was beautiful, this just means we have to go back. Darn! We ordered the eggs bene and in a fit of decadence got a side of frites to share. The hollandaise was light for hollandaise and had just the right tang of lemon, and was well made made. The eggs were poached incredibly well, walking the fine line of cooked enough to hold together and not have runny whites but with yolks that run and combine with the hollandaise to seep into the muffins. The ham looked from the menu to be a french country ham that matched well with everything and had a good flavor. All in all just a wonderful benedict.

The eggs benedict comes with some red potatoes that are pretty average, not bad at all just not a breakfast potato revelation and a frisee salad. The salad had a slightly sweet mustard vinaigrette that was a good foil for the hollandaise. Our frites had parm-reg grated over top and garlic and creme fraiche, absolutely wonderful, and continuing in the vein of being one of the best places for frites in town. The lunch menu is also available at brunch and some of the other breakfast selections looked great. We also heard a few other tables ordering the frites to go with their meals so we didn't feel like total pigs. So far with one place down and many to go 35th St Bistro sets a hard act to follow. On a scale of one to ten with ten being perfection this rates a 9.5 with a potential ten depending on our further adventures.

Aha. Now I get it. I thought you were going to try a few places today, running all over town and sharing orders. (I read your post too fast). But you mean just one place per morning. I can do that  . I hope I can make it next time. Thanks for the report!

Malarkey is kicking herself for not bringing her camera, because just the site of this eggs bene will bring you to your KNEES! It is gorgeous, as Rocky said, and the hollendaise could not have been better. And I think you are right, the ham is a thinly sliced mild french ham, gently grilled.

Extremely delicious, technically damn near perfect, it very well could be that all other eggs benes will dissapoint if we compare

Join us next time! (which unfortunately I don't think will be next weekend, unless we hit somewhere on the eastside for bene Sunday morning....?)
I'm looking forward to regretting this.
