Refreshing to find a "foodie" video in which someone hates the food. More like real life:

Funny. I think this was the first entertaining thing i have seen by him. Though I have not seen many things by him.

I think most writers would agree that it's easier to be entertaining when slamming a place than when giving praise. But highly critical videos have never really caught on. I thought he did a good job.

Unlike Coatzingo, the fine Queens tacqueria. Their B rating made me hesitate two or three seconds before stepping inside.

Not having been to any fried-chicken joints down south, I had no idea that they appear to use MSG as enthusiastically as Chinese restaurants do.

That's a bit broad brush, yes. Many Latino restaurants have huge tubs of it in the kitchen too, but I'm sure it's not universal. Even in the south.

On the other hand, could fried chicken in these parts use a little more seasoning? I think so. I am not knocking The Redhead or The Brindle Room, but they tend to be about pure chicken flavor. And...it's chicken.

Try the Memphis Hot Fried Chicken at Peaches HotHouse in Brooklyn.

You'll be complaining about something different after that.

i think he's thinking about lawry's season salt, which contrary to popular opinion does not contain msg. i have never known the addition of msg to fried chicken to be a regular or tradition southern cooking thing, at least not with home cooks

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

It's pleasant.

I personally found the chicken to be too spicy. It's not spicy in that Sichuan/Thai/Indian/Mexican multi-layered depth-of-flavor way. It's just . . . really spicy.

Anyone compared them with the Seppuku wings at Buffalo Cantina in Billyburg?
