Takes the fizz out of Lex's lemonade, doesn't it?

Interview with Brian Cashman on the Michael Kay show yesterday. It came as a complete surprise that Ichiro was in play at all. Cashman says it was made clear to him before the deal that he'd be batting low in the order and playing left field. Any concern about him switching to left at this stage in his career? Cashman: "Yeah." He might have said "Duh," but he's classy.

This could be the injury that guarantees a World Series appearance. Chavez is a better fielder, hitter and clubhouse presence.

It gets a tired and slow bat out of the three or four hole, gives Ichiro a little more motivation and gets a fresh player into the everyday lineup (Chavez).

I like Chavez, but physically he's every bit as fragile as A-Rod. Fingers crossed.

True that, but he only needs to stay healthy for three months, not seven.

And A-Rod broke his hand because he was hit by a pitch; that sort of thing could happen to any player.

I was joking. Seriously, your A-rod vendetta is like someone trying to argue that the Beatles weren't any good because they lacked sexuality.

Joking aside, there's evidence that hard, thrown objects are attracted to steroid-riddled skeletal structures.

I got that. You're actually not that subtle.

In the past I must have quoted about 20 articles from major media outlets about A-Rod's decline. Clearly there's a vast anti-Alex conspiracy at work.

BTW, no matter what Amani Toomer says, Romo isn't better than Eli.

Not subtle? So you think Wilfrid got my Beatles joke?

And I've got seven weeks before I have to deal with that crap again.

We'll be in Baltimore next month Sept. 7-9. We have tkts to Yankee-Orioles games on both the eve of Fri 9/7 (with friends who live in Balt.) and the afternoon of Sun 9/9 (Stony Brook has an alumni event/section). I have no doubt that, including our driving costs (we're staying with friends), these Yankee games will wind up costing less than if we just bought tkts to home games at Yankee Stadium. And, unfortunately, it seems that we may get to be watching part of a division race series.

In between, we'll get to Saturday's "Hampdenfest 2012" (a couple of our friends live in the neighborhood & are part of this). http://hampdenfest.blogspot.com All we have to do now is figure out which crab house to eat at on Sunday after the game. Recommendations?

Nap Lajoie, born 1874, flickers across the nation's consciousness again, as Jeter passes him for career hits.

He hit another home run too. :)
