It is really trivial to do it yourself. Connect the old and new macs via an ethernet or firewire cable and all your data, settings, etc., are copied across. Or, if you're using Time Machine, it'll copy everything from that.Isn't that part of the mac genius service offered when you purchase a new computer? I would have let them do it, but my old hard drive was already fried or something.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Apple genius charges $99 to set up a new mac.

That's the going price for genius.Apple genius charges $99 to set up a new mac.
Would you rather have someone who's only brilliant, or, in the language of
middle-school report cards, "trying hard and showing improvement"?

I bought mine 3 years ago and they included the service. Unfortunately, my old computer was a p.o.s. Dell from an ex employer that stumbled along well enough until it didn't. Blank screen, no sound of life. I decided there was little of consequence in that 10 year history and with a few exceptions, it hasn't been an issue.

The older I get, the more areas of life in which I apply this reasoningI decided there was little of consequence in that 10 year history and with a few exceptions, it hasn't been an issue.
Even if you live to be 100, life is short.

Not everything transferred. My photos didn't transfer. My iTunes folder doesn't seem to have transferred. My virtual machine in VM Fusion didn't transfer.
Any ideas?
Gracias.

On a separate note -- for a while, whenever my iPhone was near my laptop and iTunes was open, the iPhone synced automatically and I never had to plug it in. This stopped. Does anyone know what the setting is to get this going again?

Depending on your email and the website, you might be able to drag and drop the photo.Another iPhoto question. When I take pics with the iPhone, they automatically go up to the cloud and to my photostream. From there, I can put them into iPhoto folders. I find, however, that when I want to attach a pic to an email a website form or something, the program doesn't get me into iPhoto. I have to copy the pic from iPhoto into a regular photo folder in finder. Is there any way around this?

need to check the sync settings on both the phone and in itunes.
My opinions are obviously my personal opinions. Not yours. Not universal.
