Topics I've Started

Google SketchUp

11 April 2013 - 01:58 PM

I've been playing around with the free version of SketchUp.  I think it lives up to it's billing as a very user-friendly 3D software package.  I have used AutoCad in the past but it has been a long time so I'm familiar with some of the concepts.  It took me about 3 hours to put together a model of frame for a small building.

There are inexpensive books and eBooks that make it a little easier to understand the concepts and give some tips that save a tremendous amount of time.  I don't recommend trying to use this without a real mouse and a keyboard.

NYTimes Obituary

When I was at the University of Wisconsin in the late '80s as she was nearing retirement.  It seemed that every woman I met on campus (and quite a few men) took at least one of her classes and most raved about her as an instructor.

Billings, MT

15 August 2012 - 03:45 AM

I'm in Billings, MT for a meeting and did some searching for a decent restaurant.  I found Cafe DeCamp in a rather industrial part of town.  Quirky interior but a satisfying meal.

I had a sort of plate-sized fish taco that you eat with a fork and knife.  Nicely fried mahi mahi, creme fraiche, butter lettuce, smashed black beans, and a tomato/avocado salsa on a large grilled tortilla.  Served with a tomatillo salsa and a creamy avocado salsa.

A dessert of maple flan with huckleberry caramel on a crepe was a clunker.  The flan was too dense.  The huckleberry caramel and the crepe were very nice.

Depending on the meeting tomorrow I might be here more often.
