About Me

Mexico City has been home to Ruth Alegria since 2003. She has spent her time exploring and discovering the best the city has to offer.Her passion for eating well has led her to the best market, restaurants and food stalls in town.
Born in Panama of Nicaraguan parents but reared and educated in New York City, she opened the first Mexican restaurant in Princeton, N.J., in 1980 and received “two stars” from the New York Times. Trained in classic French technique as well, the longtime IACP member founded the Princeton Cooking School at the same time. As a bilingual chef, she designs and leads cultural culinary tours. Ruth is IACP country coordinator for Mexico and Convivium leader for Slow Food Condesa/Roma.

Founder of the Princeton Cooking School and former owner of the New York Times recognized Mexican Village Restaurants.
