i'm so angry.  Happy it's all coming to an end soon.  Good things on the horizon.

Were they really drunk?  That's not an excuse but their behavior is so bizarre that I'm trying to figure it out.  The only other explanation I can come up with is that they're morons.

That was really shabby.

I acknowledge the emotional pull of hanging on to Cano.  He'll be a really good ball player for 2, or maybe 3 more years.  But as good as Cano has been, he never put up Pujols type numbers.  And Pujols started declining right about the time that Cano's new contract will kick in.

Lets say the Yankees and Cano can't agree on a contract and he moves on.  At that point the Brian Cashman will be in the position of saying "Does anybody want to come play for us and earn $15 to $17 million a year?"

That's not chump change.  I think there will be lots of interest by agents and players.  I'm sure Cashman is looking at his options right now.

Lets talk about Pujols in detail.  Look at his career numbers:

He had a pretty good year last year - as long as you don't compare it to what he did seven years ago.  To me, he looks like a player whose numbers are tailing off.  Funny - the drop off started when he turned 31, the same age Cano will be next year.

You know what's not tailing off?  Pujol's salary -

2012: $12 million
2013: $16 million
2014: $23 million
2015: $24 million
2016: $25 million
2017: $26 million
2018: $27 million
2019: $28 million
2020: $29 million
2021: $30 million

That's an A-Rod type albatross contract the Angels have signed.

I think the Yankees would be right to offer Cano a decent contract with a term of 4, or at most, 5 years.  Any more than that and they'll live to regret it.

So Cano is different than Albert Pujols or Josh Hamilton?  He's 30 now and his birthday will be on October 22, right when the World Series is being played.  If the Yankees sign him to a big contract he'll be 31 when it kicks in next year.

I can understand why emotionally Yankee fans would love to have him stick around but realistically, he's got 3 good years left.  That $15 million that the Yankees are paying him now would buy a pretty good replacement.

(Yes, I'm trolling, but I'm also right.)
