About Me
Why do you want to join Mouthfuls Food? (reproduced verbatim, as cringe-inducing as certain parts of this seem in retrospect/even at the time):
Among other things, by dialoguin' w/others on this board, hope to find potential on-the-road/last minute/ongoing-replacement-for-dieting-fiancee type dining companions who are serious about their eatin'. [And are willing to take a chance on an internet stranger and dine w/me - assuming I don't come across as a Nathan wannabe, of course... ]
I'm erring on the side of TMI since I think my attempt to register last time got deleted (confirmed via email, but awaited moderator response) due to extreme terseness of explanation (I thought it was a generic anti-spam measure, not aware there was active human judgment involved).
This is starting to sound like a singles ad for a very narrow audience, but here goes:
I tend to eat a lot of food (assuming it doesn't inconvenience the coursing of other people's meals). And have super-high tolerance for amounts of dessert (same caveat as before). In practice, this means I tend to restrict my ordering to match the amount/pacing of whoever I'm dining with, or else choose to be a solo diner/bar diner on occasions when I really want to go all out. Don't mind sharing food, don't mind not sharing food.
Taking off from some other user's comment (sneakeater?) I'm probably close to the kind of person who'd eat in a total dive standing up next to a garbage can if
a)the food were good
b)the garbage can smells didn't interact _directly_ w/my ability to taste and enjoy said excellent food
In practice, such extremes rarely arise, since much of my new york fine dining is more likely to involve jackets and pocket squares (much less so these days, given the overall dress code trends). On the other hand, when I go to Momofuku Ko or Degustation, I have no compunctions about bringing a large, repurposed viscoelastic foam pad that was advertised as a bathmat (bought brand new, never used for anything besides dining) and folding it over to pad the Ko stools / Degustation's straight-backed chairs. And wearing a casual, short-sleeved shirt since
a)casualness explicitly comports w/their stated and preferred dress code (esp for ko), so it offends neither restaurant nor other patrons
b)their open kitchens can get quite hot (not always, and not throughout the room)
Basically trying to imply that as a dining companion, I'll be well dressed at fancy places (and certainly won't be a potential dress code violator), but am not pretentious/am as practical as possible w/o being obnoxious, possibly offending other diners, or embarrassing dining companions, when it comes to maximizing the enjoyment of tasty food (esp in casual settings).
I don't care if half of a restaurant's menu is awful, as long as the other half is amazing, and the issue is not inconsistency across time or particular dishes – so that I can go back and reorder the excellent parts of the menu.
Male, happily engaged/de facto married, ~30 years old. I don't take photos in restaurants, but have no problem with people who do – in fact, I am happy to wait while others photograph their own food, as well as mine (assuming that they want to do so because I ordered a different dish, etc).
