Full Version: Michelin Starred Restaurants Orlando
Mouthfuls > USA > Florida and The South
Koen
Hi All,

Last week, we were in NY and ate at 'The Modern', a 1 starred Michelin restaurant. This was such a good experience that we would like to repeat this. In July, we are visiting Orlando and I would like to know if there are any Michelin Starred restaurants there. If anybody has a link to these restaurants, I would appreciate this.

Thanks.

I believe that in the U.S. Michelin has rated restaurants only in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and of course New York.

OUr trip to orlando in jan reinforced our beleif that Orlando is the capital of chain restaurants.Furthermore ,the restaurants within disney are false, pretentious and expensive. We had OK dinners at Del frisco steakhouse and au coq au vin.Probably they are your best choices.

Koen, perhaps you'd care to post about your meals in NYC on the other thread you started? I for one would be interested in where you ended up going and what you thought of the experience.

I updated the post in the NY topic with my comments.

I'm now curious about the restaurants in Florida.
The Scream
Disney World has a simulated Michelin starred restaurant.

The Orlando Sentinel reviews restaurants in the area.

One place they've starred is Le Coq au Vin on South Orange Avenue. Le Coq website

I plugged "orlando" and checked "expensive" (third of four ascending buttons) on the Sentinel's engine, and got 13 hits, including three critically reviewed places and two readers choice awards. You can put in combinations of locations like Disney /southern Orange, winter park, etc.

Based on my visit a few weeks ago, calling the area the "capital of chain restaurants" isn't too far off the mark. There are several very expensive restaurants tied to hotels (Norman's at the Ritz Carlton, Melissa Kelly at the Marriott Grande Lakes, for example) but my guess is that ties very closely to the convention and meeting business.

Koen, I think what you really want to know is if there are good restaurants in Orlando. Forget the Michelin star thing - it doesn't make a lot of sense in the U.S. At least not yet.

Well, but we know what he means and I think Orlando is not a cradle for gourmands. But I would have said the same thing about Vegas 10 years ago and I could not today.

Coq au vin is where I go. Their sommelier has left, so I can't vouch for the list. It at least used to be good.

The food is OK. I doubt it would stay open in NYC, certainly not in a competitive neighborhood.

Otherwise, go to a steakhouse, drink beer or cocktails, and get out as soon as you can.
