I agree that menu seems even shorter -- but the food is still just crazy good.

The cod was black cod when we had it a few days ago (so not cod at all) and I really liked it. I feel like the menu is even shorter recently (like, apps were only chicken, buckwheat crepes and burger)

 

Those were the only apps last night too. And the pickle sandwich. 

It actually was the black cod. I just misremembered. Not a bad dish. A for execution. Just one I've seen elsewhere a number of times (heck, made it myself a couple times) with nothing particularly momofukued-up about it. So even if it was arguably one of the best versions of it I've had I didn't find myself getting excited. At $36 I wouldn't personally order it again, but I wouldn't dissuade someone else from ordering it either. 

The fish head was the big winner. For those who like fish heads, at least.

 

And the Ramones Fizz, which feels like a glass of flavored air, but our pastry chef couldn't stop giggling the whole time he drank it.

Maybe the no-rez thing? I always anticipate not being able to get seats, but 90% of the time we're seated right away. I think only once we had to wait, and even then it was only a half-hour or so.

I may have to go back soon, as aforementioned pastry chef got a bit drunk and towards the end was being kind of a dick, so I need to make amends with the waiter who ever so patiently put up with his shenanigans.

When I'm eating by myself after shows -- the great bulk of my eating out -- I never make reservations.  And I never don't get seated immediately that late at Ko Bar.

As all things nyc, it's definitely getting less ambitious - exact same menu for at least a week, no raw fish, duck pie now really just a duck burger in dough (no more of that sauce) and now closing at 11 instead of 11:30.

But still good.
sandwiches that are large and filling and do not contain tuna or prawns
