you buy whole fish from the women who sell them, then take them over to a different part of the market where there were three people cutting up everyone's fish to their specs. in bengal we call that lethal looking thing a "bonti" ("bow-tee" with a nasal ou sound).

the crab and some of the kingfish and prawns were made into a very non-annoying dinner by the cook tonight. pics on instagram.

actually, that's wrong. the bengali bonti is a fixed blade and is even more terrifying: the blade stays put/held by the feet, the fish or veg are moved across it. not sure what this is called.

posted a video of the gent cutting our kingfish up. that knife goes through the fish like it isn't there. and that move he does to disembowel the fish is pure poetry.

yeh, i spent a good deal of time looking at the bonti or boti knives... Or that coconut shredding boti or bonti..   Nothing similar to what the guy in your photo had.. Then there is also the knives where people are just attaching a handle to a band saw.. those things look pretty wild too.. But, yeh, the fish guys knife, looks super interesting..

That's terrific. I now feel less afraid of my Spanish fishmonger knife.

The wind here was super-strong today: we lost power for a few hours (among many power outages all over the area) and the fence between us and one of our next-door neighbors partially blew down.  We also had to manually take down two other small sections, because the wind would have blown them right into our fledgling apple and cherry sections. The neighbors haven't been home all day, so N left them a note lest they get a rude surprise in the AM.

Factory used the wrong upc code for an item.. Unfortunately, i shipped 168 thousand pieces to a customer.. More unfortuantely, the upc coincides with an active item in their system... so, i now have to find someone to relabel all of these things.

The good news is it's in another country so, labor will be cheaper.. the bad news is, it's  in another country so, labor will be cheaper.  Either way, I better get a credit from my factory.

About half of LA is coughing all the time.  Some is flu.  Some is bronchitis.  Face masks are sold out.  Pharmacies are running out of prescription cough syrups and running low on Z-packs and inhalers.  Chicken soup is off the shelf.  At least it's not corona.  And the weather is good.

Take care.    A light case of FluA put me out for almost 3 weeks.   Slept 22 hours a day for 10 days.    Altho I'd had the super 65+ flu shot.

And then I found out that it IS my circus, and they ARE my monkeys..,

I have had the flu 2x. Both times were when I took the vaccine. SO had the flu while we were in Phoenix for the tournament. Obviously we were in very close quarters as we were staying in a hotel room for the week. Me, no flu shot this year...and did not catch the flu. All the rest of his crew (10 people) have had the shot...and they all came down with it over the course of the 5 week west coast swing. Granted it is anecdotal evidence...but it is interesting...maybe I just have a good immune system.
