I didn't mind it.  I thought it was clear that Platt was endorsing those opinions: it's not like he turned the column over to her.

I thought that review was particularly lame.  Platt, whatever his faults, is a professional critic.  His 15 year old daughter is not.  McGarry, OTOH, is charging $160 for his tasting menu.  Those are adult prices, not amateur teenage cook prices.  Platt should have reviewed the place.  Turning over the reins to his 15 daughter was a device for him to avoid obviously pulling his punches or overpraising a pop up that doesn't deserve it.

McGarry didn't open a pop up that caters to 15 year old tastes - he opened an adult place at adult prices.

read like "critic's teenage daughter likes teenage 'chef,' dad not so much" -  didn't have the balls to say what he really thought - or perhaps felt kid 'chef' deserved kid 'critic.'  I mean, good for the kid (the one cooking) in that he was spared Cuozzo's full-on slam but it also implies that he was not taken seriously as a chef by Platt/NY mag (or maybe they thought it was oh-so-fucking-cute) but as Lex says, adult place at adult prices...

I think they were trying to avoid the kind of response that Dave Santos got on that reprehensible Chowhound thread:  don't bully a baby.

(As I posted on CH:  a BABY charging $160 a meal!!!!!)

Its sort of a shame no one took this kid aside - or his parents - and pointed out this wasn't exactly the best way to use his parents money to further his career. Now he's just kind of a spoiled rich kid and wtf wants to work with that.

Speaking of the Cuozz...in that same review, it said:

there was an excellent aged beet.

What the fuck is an aged beet?  Every bodega in Manhattan that sells vegetables sells aged beets.

And Cuozzo didn't even tell us if it was a dry aged beet or a wet aged beet.

You don't know about his signature 21-day aged beet?  It's served with a Bordelaise sauce.

Apparently it's "beefy," although that may be a textural rather than a flavor thing.

I think that was a teenage beet (and I think it's off the menu now).

If the kid was serving 8 courses for $50 I'd cut him plenty of slack.  $160 for 16 is something else.
