Any opinions on this partnership? Stacks of Camembert and Epoisses, but of course made with pasteurized milk for sad US market.

I seem to recall they already had a Mons relationship when they'd just opened the  Houston shop (remember that large and somewhat ill-maintained cheese section facing Houston?)

Assuming they're not doing anything terrible, the Mons Epoisses and Camembert (and of course Mont d'Or, and a couple of other cheeses) I sometimes get in Japan were certainly better than most, but the price is just incredible (might be better in the US)

That cheese shop was going to be their flagship.  They even brought in a good cheese person or two.

Never worked out.

I thought that space was supposed to be used for wine but the city only gave them a permit for beer because the columbus circle location was selling wine without a license. the same person told me that they forgot to adjust the blended markup and that's why beer was so cheap at first.

I remember the Houston cheese bunker. I've just noticed Mons Camembert and Epoisses prominently displayed recently, but maybe it's nothing new.

The Camembert is okay.

take a look at the Kroger share price this week.

Imagine being attacked by Wal-Mart, Aldi, Lidl, and Amazon all at once.  Four different business models all best in class attacking you on different axis.

I was just telling a MFFer the other day about the lackluster condition of some Mons offering at WF, but today there is a Mons Epoisses that is the best Epoisses I've had stateside, on sale at least at the Bowery location.

I remember when that store first opened, they were gonna do the whole high-end cheese thing. Which then I think turned into pickles.

Good to know!
