I guess I should formally request that an Admin correct the spelling of the thread title, since as Wilf points out the restaurant's name is spelled "Meshiguene".

That's funny because I changed it to that and then I guess an admin followed up on Sneak's incorrect request.

See, my American brain just can't wrap itself around that first vowel's being an "i".

An unusual choice for sure.

I wish I could type gefilte with a u and an umlaut on my phone but life is too short.

I had better be able to get the gefilte fish at the table, or I will be wrecking the host desk with a sturdy volume of Shestov.

I guess it depends on how many gefiltes their fish supplier caught over the weekend.

Man, I will bring my own jar and dump it on the bread plate. I am excited for that gefilte fish. You are taking to the goy who actually buys and eats it.

Am I imagining things, or did there used to be fish main dishes — er, large plates — that have disappeared from the menu?

Two things struck me last night. No fish entrees, and other than a bunch of champagnes, not one French wine by the bottle or glass.

Stay tuned.

The exclusion of French wine was very much a purposeful decision.

And good for them.
