I returned home...after 18 years, and when it was still really nice.

A writer in The Atlantic says the problem is too much building of housing in the wildland-urban interface (WUI).  I didn't even know that was a thing.

Then that happened.

It absolutely is.    "When I was young", there were cities and towns and lots of country, orchards, pasture, mountains.    Today there is metropolitan sprawl, industrial parks, tech "campuses", and mile after mile of developments joining previous small towns.    Contra Costa County was bayside and rolling hills.    Napa and Sonoma were one-horse towns surrounded by farmland, a few heritage vineyards.     Today the burbs extend right up to and into rugged canyoned mountains.

And then climate change brought these winds from hell.

There have always been Santa Ana winds, but the winds now seem more severe.

Exactly.    In town, I started remarking about the change in wind strength maybe 5 years ago.    And then they got worse.

Wealth and climate change is a really bad combination.

All are lunatics, but he who can analyze his delusions is called a philosopher.
