Surprised no replies. Unknown in the US? He was a credible restaurant chef (especially at The Greenhouse), then a celebrity TV chef. Seems he fell and struck his head, hence the haemorrhage. ETA the falling story now withdrawn.

When I saw this, I thought, “that name’s familiar. Wasn’t he one of the Walker Brothers?”

Household name in the UK, like Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.  I guess his shows didn't air here.*

Guardian obit

*It says there he hosted the first two U.S. series of MasterChef (MasterChef USA on PBS), but that was 2000-1, and I had forgotten that.

a terrible way to go (not that there are very many good ones).

my annoying opinions: whisky, food and occasional cultural commentary

current restaurant review: house of curry (sri lankan in rosemount, mn)

current whisky review: glen ord 28

current recipe: white bean curry with green peppers

Michelin starred. He was the real deal, then he made money on TV.

I think I remember him. When he did MasterChef, wasn't his closing line something about "commiserations to the losers"?
