The past several years I have had numerous offers to subscribe to various auto magazines (Autoweek, Car and Driver, Road & Track, Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Automobile, etc.) for very nominal sums with some sort of gift in the bargain. I see now that Autoweek is going out of business and is going to send me Car and Driver for the balance of a subscription. Are they willing to give the magazines away to get readership up for purposes of ad revenue (all seem to have multi-page ads for Weathertech mats and accessories)? Are they a dying breed? As a former low, low level employee of Petersen Publications, I need to know. Is this some sort of trend for magazines generally (doesn't seem to hold for The New Yorker)?
What's going on with car magazines?
