#1344124 Sushi Katsuei

Posted by Deb Van D on 03 September 2015 - 01:55 AM

Katsuei is so fine. It is far and away the best sushi I've had in a Park Slope, if that's not damning them with faint praise. I was sorry to think that their higher price tag was going to cost me dearly but have stopped trying sushi elsewhere so it's a wash. If I were to quibble it would be for the unattractive lighting, but the quality of the food outweighs any real concern.

I've taken pix at friends' dinner parties - the pix are my notes and it helps me remember what I've eaten.

Most of my friends would find that so weird, they wouldn't know how to deal with it.

Oh no!! When I eat at Rich's I always....

This is well worth seeing for the music alone but the bittersweet stories of the backup singers who try to make solo careers is by turns exhilarating and depressing.

In spite of incredible talent these breakthroughs were rare, and then only when a singer is showcased by someone like Bruce Springsteen (Darlene Love). Even established singers with The Stones, Sting and Stevie Wonder have had mixed success.

There are great moments with The Waters Family and great old pieces with Tina Turner and The Ikettes. It's a lot of fun.

Stories of frustration everywhere, like that of the incredible Judith Hall who was moments away from her big break with Michael Jackson when he died. And if you ever needed confirmation of what a dick the mad genius Phil Spector was you'll find it here.

I was just thinking of taking up yoga & now I read this.

I stink at it, but I love it. Irons out the wrinkles. But it was the first session of the new semester, and I felt guilty skipping it so blithely. I wanted to watch Rafa. Karma's a bitch.

Yoga is good.

I swear she's in my class! I'd know those quads anywhere.

But it was really that good. I had thought the reports might have been exaggerated. Newp.

We dodged lightning bolts to get there, but it was entirely worth it. The Voodoo shrimp with spicy worcestershire cream sauce over jalapeno cornbread is extraordinary. I nearly disgraced myself by licking the plate clean. Lex had the barbequed pork strudel with cheddarjack cheese and pickled jalapeno coleslaw, terrific, and we both had the jambalaya, really spicy. I had mine topped with shrimp creole, because I am given to excess. Just wonderful, big, juicy shrimp, boy, that was good.

It left me wondering how we had managed to avoid the place for so long. It is rather a distance for us, but it would be worth even a longer drive. BYO. I had to stop by the kitchen on our way out and gush over Drew a little.
