Momofuku Daisho

Momofuku Daisho - University Ave Toronto CA

Due to fortunate or unfortunate events depending on how I look at it, I was able to get out of town for the holiday weekend. I was able to secure a Sat eve reservation at Daisho at 7:00 and headed over after a day at the market and a little shopping.

First off, the place is stunning the dining spaces are sized perfectly feeling airy and open, yet intimate. We sat at the bar and ordered some bottles and I byob’ed a bottle at 35.00 corkage. Off the list, we had a nice Loimer GV and also a BC Rose from Joie Farms.

Food wise, I think we ordered well and what we had all seemed prepared correctly but all maybe a little meh…  This could very well be a case of overly high expectations.

Fluke - no hint of mustard oil or banana pepper

Really fresh oysters but no hint of pickled watermelon

Radishes, too soft and under pickled. Not sure which way this dish was supposed to go.

Excellent Tomato Salad with Cod fritter and green goddess.....but a Momofuku thing?

Roasted Rice Cakes...orderd minus the sausage and probably a mistake.

Whole trout deboned and made into a Roulade. Moist and tender but recollection of flavors.

This is corn..............

I don't remember what this was.

All in all, I realize that meats are probably the show pieces here and I would accept it if you said I ordered wrong. But for Korean "accents", I put more heat, funk, and spice into my home cooking which is pretty mild. I did love the space. excellent service. nicely curated wine list, though. I guess maybe when you're on vacation, make sure the kitchen isn't. Not a deal breaker though, I would return for Shoto or ask them to kick it up a notch "BAM"

PS - The Milk Bar mini store was a hoot I like the Corn Cookie over the Compost, Crank Pie. The perfect takeaway when walking back to the Hotel.

IPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

30 July 2013 - 07:26 PM

I don't need a new phone but hey.....

Thinking of leaving my IPhone 4S to go over to Android.

Just really like the Samsung package.

Anyone have any regrets or glad tidings?
