I love when I can re-purpose leftovers to make something possibly better than the original.

Brisket Tacos!!! Shredded leftover brisket, some quick pickled cabbage, sriracha mayo and a little squeeze of lime. Corn tortillas.

No, whats surreal is that anything interesting in New York City happens OUTSIDE of Brooklyn.

No. What's surreal is that Brooklyn is as hip as it is. I mean, there were generations who did everything they possibly could to flee.

Princeton has a program in Law and Public Affairs that is very prestigious. It's a big deal to be invited to present there and be a fellow.

Good price on berries at the greenmarket. So, i made 5 half pints of what I'm calling "black, hot, and blue" - black and blue berries with grated ginger. Tasted great drizzled on buttermilk ice cream,

I used to love his annual visits to Letterman's show to do the football toss and tell his Lone Ranger story.

#1413066 Ethical Question - Maternity Leave and Job Change

Posted by bloviatrix on 07 August 2017 - 01:46 AM

I have several friends who did this - you have to do what's right for you. I was actually recruited fairly aggressively for another position while I was on maternity leave and I gave it considerable thought. In my case, it wasn't the right move but for the right job I would have done it.

So looking at that calendar, someone who adheres to the major, minor and modern holidays only goes to work on August 4th. Think I need to convert.

The days that Joe posted plus the first two and last two of Passover and the two days of Shavuot (13 in all) are the only days you are truly prohibited from working. You are allowed to work on all other days.

And no one works on Aug. 4 because it's erev Shabbat.

#1411487 Miele dishwashers

For those of you have one - have you ever had a situation where all of sudden it sounded as if the water was draining out of your dishwasher and then it was running when you hadn't turned it on? We had it last night - I heard water going down the drain and then a low hum. None of the lights indicating that the dishwasher was running were on (we weren't using it) and when we opened it, it did not appear as if anything was happening. When we turned the on/off button all the lights on the side where the place in the cycle is indicated started flashing. Blovie ended up pulling the plug out of the outlet since he was afraid of flooding. It really seemed like a poltergeist took over.

Is my dishwasher possessed?

Hosted friends for dinner over the weekend, one of who has celiac. So dessert was almond flour brownies with black peppermint ice cream. OMG - absolutely heavenly.

So now I'm on a sherbet kick. This week's flavor is from my well-worn copy of David Leibovitz's The Perfect Scoop - Mocha Sherbet. I'm tempted to make a slushie with it.

Really my favorite book about frozen, scoopable desserts. Recently ran into David at the hipster ice cream place across the street, which he loves...Ice & Vice.

My copy is signed by David - several years after the book came he did a book signing at City Bakery so I brought my copy which he could tell was well-loved.
