Nataly is doing great. She has a job in the Deli dept. at HEB. She lives with her boyfriend, a 6'4" redheaded graduate from the Univ. of Texas. He works for Time Warner. I believe there may be a wedding in 2015. Her dog, Tonalli, is still alive and kicking. Nataly is happy and healthy, and loves her life. We are blessed. And so is she.

(again, if any of you have the skills to upload the photo, have at it......sheesh......)

#1229545 I'm learning to can!

Posted by foodie52 on 14 April 2013 - 10:11 PM

I'm obsessed. I have a couple dozen jars of Seville orange marmalade and another dozen grapefruit. After Simon Majumdar's visit this past weekend, I was inspired to spice up today's batch of grapefruit marmalade with my own masala. It tastes pretty good. I've also made kumquat and ginger, limequat and tarragon....the sky's the limit.

I've made strawberry jam with "throw away" strawberries (they had been sitting, uncovered in the fridge for a week) and it was fabulous, too.

I bought a canning kit for $17 and use it much more than I ever thought. I am still kicking myself that I spent untold years and dollars buying store marmalade, here and also schlepping it back from the UK.

#1227730 Mushrooms obsession

Posted by foodie52 on 31 March 2013 - 08:36 PM

I adore them . Always have, all kinds. I pretty much incorporate them in 4 or 5 meals a week. How do you use them? Any memorable dishes?

First restaurant where  I ever had roasted mushrooms must have been at Craft in 2002.

I am tempted, simply because it gives me an excuse not to cook once a week.

#1223201 June 29 - July 4 : HELP!

Posted by foodie52 on 01 March 2013 - 10:46 PM

Renting a car at Logan on June 29th, and then we have til July 4 to go somewhere cool. I haven't been to New England since I was a kid. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a place up the coast where we could stay for a total of 5 nights? I am thinking that we could divide that trip into destination 1 and 2.

Thanks, everyone!
