Ah, fuck. I hated Tilted Arc, and then I went to Dia Beacon and I was like OH! This is what you’re trying to do. I get it now. I was randomly on 6th Ave when his MOMA show was being broken down and trucked away and THAT was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. All these gigantic oxidized iron slabs on a parade of huge flatbed trucks.

    ETA They’re steel? TIL.

I'm actually more pissed off at somebody else's "Vongerichten heads uptown".

When he's already got a place in Pound Ridge, which is waaaaay uptown.

Up until today I had no idea there was such a thing as saury.

    Thanks.

You're welcome! I think I first had it grilled as part of the lunch special at Her Name Is Han. This smoked one would make a killer onigiri.

  4. Thanks! I did not see it in 1970, as that would have meant staying up past my bedtime. But I've seen the movie many times - I used to teach a course in adaptation, and Tommy was two of the texts. I have such a strong attachment to certain sequences that I wonder if I'm going to be able to connect to the new production.

they aren't totally going for the same "take away" in this one either

Now I'm very curious as to the new one's "take away." I should probably just read the interview.

  5. Well, I see we had a minyan in there tonight. Surf clam two ways. I can't decide which way I liked better. I am such a fan of raw seafood. But I also sit in awe of a good clean fry.

This was what brought me in the door - cod roe taramasalata with smoked sturgeon. Described as the Jewiest thing on the menu (but it was not!).

My favorite turnip, which I would like to try to replicate at home, except that I don't have a wood-burning oven. Maybe I'll give it a go when we're upstate and there's wood, and it's burning. Ham served on the side for my companion, who eats ham.

Big ass dungy, with two sauces and a rice. I was distracted from my enjoyment of this crab by the concern that we were taking too long to eat it and throwing off the rhythm of the seatings. But not all that distracted.

This is actually the Jewiest dish. Because it is fancy cold halvah. Tahini gelato with pistachios and pomegranate.

I never imagined that at this stage in my life I would be absolutely crazy about some random band again

I think maybe we never outgrow this nonsense. Like when ducklings imprint on some random mother surrogate.
