  1. She is excellent. But hellooo! Joanna Lumley!
  2. Pugsley is the one to watch this season, sez me.
  3. The only time I’ve had Sweetgreen is during department meetings (when I had to go to those, which I don’t right now). I never had a bowl that wasn’t missing at least one (paid for) ingredient, and most of them included past-its-prime lettuce. I avoid the place like the plague.

    Supper

Here, have a very complicated wedge salad. Also a ceviche and some half shell clams (from two days ago - I can't eat all this at once). Also, I learned that the Pura Vida fish guy is now with Seatuck, and Pura Vida has closed. This happened like a year ago, I'm just very slow to notice things.
  5. That's quite a user name.
  6. I'm not exactly defending clueless loudmouth over there, but I've seen exactly one woman sushi chef (at Taka, a million years ago), and I eat a not tiny amount of sushi.
  7. You don't say! That fact was absolutely buried among all the pictures of some lady cutting up fish.

    Tom Lehrer

    1. I love him and can still probably sing everything on That Was the Year That Was. 2. He was STILL ALIVE? https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/27/arts/music/tom-lehrer-dead.html

    Gawker-killer. No tears.

    Le Veau d'Or

    This is a fair point.

    Le Veau d'Or

I think you mean fuked. (And yes, yes it is.)

    Le Veau d'Or

A snit like that takes months to mature.
  14. It's cool when the moment you learn a place exists and the moment you realize you have no interest in it are so close together.
  15. Better. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/22/dining/chez-fifi-restaurant-review.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Yk8.Ne31.peKlG0b_GKD2&smid=url-share
  16. My thoughts exactly.
  17. I was such a fan of The Osbournes! And I got to meet him once, at an XBox event. Here he is getting excited about something while giving H an interview.
  18. I think this guy's a little early (or late) to the rut! I just looked it up and he's not due to start rutting 'til September or so.
  19. Awful. Does it seem to anyone else that an awful lot of young people are dying lately?
  20. Last night I was hanging out on our deck, having a glass of wine in the dark, and I heard a pretty good size something clumsily crashing around in the underbrush. It made a sound that I can best describe as the noise a crow would make if it were the size of a beagle: a loud, harsh caw. It scared the shit out of me. I know deer often make a racket as they travel, but I'd never heard a deer make a noise like that. Apparently they do.
  21. Thanks for that report! I got the email from them announcing this dinner - glad to hear it was a winner.
  22. Sinners. It's good. It's not as good as you've been led to believe. Tries to do too much at once, almost succeeds. I love that it is set in Clarksdale, 'cause I've been there for the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival.
  23. I think you are correct! Did Tina Brown's editorship of the NYer cause a lot of exoduses?
  24. No, but I know exactly what that refers to - Bates was in a production of Frankie & Johnny (which I saw), and Pfeiffer was cast in the movie version. Bates is actually a much better choice, because Frankie is supposed to be unpretty and insecure. But that's Hollywood, baby. A similar thing happened with Amadeus. Tim Curry, who was awesome in the play, was replaced by Tom Hulce in the movie version because Curry was deemed too old to play Mozart onscreen (probably because he was).
  25. Eh, she's fine.
