  1. Liberace put on quite a show. I saw his last tour. I and my companion may have been the only people in the audience not wearing purple pantsuits.

In Minnesota's favor I will say that Courtney Williams is a rockstar, and I would like it if she came to play for the Liberty.
  3. We're not just listing bands, we're listing bands that put on memorable shows.
  4. X at a punk club in Houston. So amazing that I threw myself into the mosh pit even though I was wearing sandals, which was a very bad idea. And the Mekons at CBs on a very hot summer day. Coupla fist fights because the heat made people crazy. It is possible that I shoved someone who was trying to take my spot.

That was enraging. As was Sabrina's addiction to shooting three-pointers and missing.

I honestly thought they were going to blow it. Obviously I'm thrilled that they didn't, but (crouches down, lowers voice) they kind of deserved to. They did not play well at all. But! Obviously I'm thrilled.
  7. The closest I came to seeing The Clash was when Joe Strummer sat in with The Pogues at the old Ritz. He was drunker than me, but not by much. Oh, The Roots were very good. Saw them at CBs during the Black Rock Coalition festival.
  8. I saw The Ramones a few times, and I enjoyed their shows a lot, but I didn't think they really brought it the way other bands did. Of course, this was not in 1977, because I wasn't allowed to go out to bars then.

    Supper

Homemade diner dinners are the best dinners. Tile fish oreganata, lemon rosemary potatoes, cucumber salad with mint.
  11. I'm trying to think of the bands I thought were the best live (other than my friends' bands, which is a whole nother story). I'm going with The Cramps, The Breeders, Iggy Pop, Green Day, Dire Straits and Elvis Costello. I was super stoned for Dire Straits, though, so they may not actually be that good live.
  12. I think it's likely the parents of Swifties doing much of the paying.
  13. The mister thinks he’s juicing. And also thanks him.

I was close to a heart attack last night, so I better rest up before Sunday, when I'll probably have a stroke. Really good game, despite the Liberty refusing to not lose.

I haven't been to Cervo in a long time, but this checks out, 'cause that bartender lived in Ridgewood.

    Supper

A sazerac as I admire my mise en place. Deviled eggs, oysters rockefeller with sorrel from the balcony, low country seafood chowder. And now you know what I’ve been up to today.

I was not displeased! Bonus points for the bartender coming over to make sure my martini was to my liking (yes).

Some unusual and good dishes at this Sri Lankan / South Indian place, notably the vada, the calamari, the crispy turkey berries (no picture 'cause it was all the way at the other end of the table), the hoppers (ditto) the chili cheese dosa, and the nandu chaaru, which - although the menu gave no inkling of this - turned out to be a very intense crab soup. Crab roast and Sri Lankan Prawn Kari were less successful, because South Asian restaurants tend to overcook / over-sauce seafood (except calamari?), there, I said it, come at me if you must.
  21. They're trying to counter the appearance of elitism that the Carbone nonsense produced. Or something.
  22. A comparison of all of Manhattan's Taco Bells would be more useful.
  23. Whoever pitched this story should be ashamed of themselves. And whoever greenlit it should be fired. What a dumb use of NYT resources.
