    Matthew Perry

The show has, improbably, never stopped being popular. Even with all the bitching about its persistent whiteness and occasional transphobia and unrealistic portrayal of life in Manhattan. (Did you know that it is incumbent upon sitcoms to display a relentless gritty naturalism? Well, now you do.)

  3. Oh, I know. But it's very nice to be able to get all your stuff under one roof.
  4. I'll miss them, though. Their prices were often better than Best Produce or whatever it's called.

    Supper

Cod with onion, lemon and olive relish. Getting my shit together to start cooking again, it's been a minute.
  6. The building was called The Gramercy East, but I and everyone else in it recognized that as aspirational. Common wisdom at the time was that everything within a 10:00 cab ride of the park was considered Gramercy Park. But it's not like I had a key or anything.
  7. I'm not sure where you are exactly, but I used to live at the corner of 2nd Ave and E 22nd St. At the time, there were color-coded maps in cabs illustrating the various neighborhoods. The East Village! Midtown! Tribeca! My neighborhood had no name at all, and its color on the map was gray. So I told people I lived in The Gray Area. Maybe you do, too.
  8. There is really nothing I love more than a good interactive map.
  9. This thing is so quiet that I think it's up to something.
  10. That's quite a big step away from the previous incarnation. Down to three kinds of fish (four if you count the catfish).
  11. Are those people actually cats? Because then that would make a lot of sense.
  12. That seems like the only reason to put it in Times Square, but - judging by my 5ish minutes inside the store - it's not getting a lot of foot traffic from anyone wandering around after seeing a Sweeney Todd matinee, unless they are me. And how many people are gonna think to themselves, hmmm, what's an awesome souvenir to take home from the Big Apple? I know! Portuguese sardines! https://www.portuguesesardine.com/us/
  13. I went to the Times Square sardine store, and the cheapest tin of sardines was $15 (the most expensive was around $40). Then I went to Wegman's, and the cheapest tin of sardines was $1.49 (the most expensive was around $6). I have seen the sardine spectrum today, my friends.

I've missed you, beans and greens. It's been too long. Also, my kale's immortal again.

    Supper

Cranberry beans and balcony greens. (Hearing this in Robin Leach's voice.) Also, need to work on my salad plating. Sheesh.
