    Dim Sum

I'd love to join in for dim sum, too...
  4. I guess this could qualify as small stuff, but it p*ssed me off yesterday that I drove to the post office to mail a birthday card so it will arrive on Monday and the freaking post office last pick up is at 3pm ... I arrived at 4pm... with all the taxes I pay they can't freaking afford to keep 1 person on duty to pick up til 5pm on Saturday. If I desired this type of postal service I'd move to Canada... !!@@**GGRRRR**!!@@ ... small stuff...
  5. Happy birthday to the people having birthdays or who just had a birthday... I'm a bit behind here and catching up ...
  6. And it's all small stuff. Or at least it's supposed to be.
  7. Happy Birthday Lauren! And happy belated birthday to memesuze!
  8. He was a former fighter pilot... just wondering if most commercial pilots are former fighter pilots? I have no idea... The pilot was identified as Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger of Danville, Calif. "It was intense. It was intense. You've got to give it to the pilot. He made a hell of a landing," Kolodjay said. "He is the consummate pilot," his wife, Lorrie Sullenberger, told the New York Post. Sullenberger is an U.S. Air Force Academy grad who flew F-4 fighter planes while in the Air Force, she said. "He is about performing that airplane to the exact precision to which it is mad
  9. Turns out the pilot has a safety training business. Pretty good advertising for how effective it is! He was the last one off; checked the plane twice for passengers. I had not heard this part of the story until now. He is a true hero.
  10. Happy Birthdays to Maison Rustique & Suzanne!
  11. There will be a meteor shower in the morning! I posted about this on the PNW forum, but posting it again here, too... The Quadrantid Meteor shower is happening early in the morning and will be peaking around 4:50am PST, Jan 3). "Every year this active shower peaks around the morning of January 3rd, with varying numbers visible per hour (sometimes numbering in the hundreds). The Quadrantids favor northern hemisphere observers(especially western North America), and the farther north you are, the better the view! There is no single constellation associated with this shower as far as
  12. If you enjoy Meteor Showers, like I do, the Quadrantid Meteor shower is happening early in the morning and will be peaking around 4:50am PST,( tomorrow morning, Jan 3). "Every year this active shower peaks around the morning of January 3rd, with varying numbers visible per hour (sometimes numbering in the hundreds). The Quadrantids favor northern hemisphere observers(especially western North America), and the farther north you are, the better the view! There is no single constellation associated with this shower as far as a radiant, but look towards the area where the handle of the Big D
  13. Your roads might look better than ours in Seattle... they don't use salt on our roads! It's reported they leave them snow packed *by design*... And I currently have NO WATER... a water main down the street broke today (under the street) and they are *working on it*.... Yes, yes, yes. But the important thing is, do you hate my sister? ps... I hate Jayme's sister with a passion!!! peppyre, I hope you feel better soon... ouch...

  15. peppyre, it sounds like you are really getting hit with a lot of snow and now wind. How much snow do you have? We now have 9" and I heard on the news that Shelton, near where our family vacation home is, has 17"... Eden, I googled and flaxseed in a small amount seems to be fine for wild birds and is part of some bird seed mix. Birds have keen eye sight and even if you are not on their regular route, they might spot it... it's worth a shot. I have some, too, I will put out... and I'm thinking of grinding some pecans or walnuts for them, since I don't have sunflower seeds or bird mi
  16. Jan, your pictures are great! I especially love the *sunbathing anyone?* caption! We now have a little over 8 inches, near Alki. And I have 3 Anna's hummingbirds that I've been feeding throughout this weather... I go out and brush the snow off their feeders and bring them in at night... I feel rather badly I have not set up my regular bird feeder, though, and hope the neighborhood chickadees and sparrows have found feeders and/or food and water somewhere.... I even threw some walnuts to some crows that I felt sorry for (something I would normally never do)...
  17. You have a lot of snow! We have about 5.5 inches and it's crunchy snow here, too... so funny to watch our dog go outside and crunch through the snow to do his business... I guess we should be shoveling a path and sanding, but just haven't done it... I feel so sad for the local retailers... business must really suck with the roads the way they are... news pictures of our West Seattle bridge show it almost deserted... I have not moved my car since some grocery shopping that one day that got above freezing (Thurs?)...
  18. It also makes a great pan for popping corn on the stove, with a little olive oil in it ... I use mine several days a week for that, and for stir fries, among other things...
  19. what is this "sunrise" thing you speak of??? I just got up & looked outside. things are melting fast here in the Tropics of Ballard, but if the predictions are correct & it does indeed snow tomorrow on top of all the ice we have now, then Sunday is going to really be Snowmageddon... Stay safe out there folks, or better still stay safe inside! I follow Cliff Mass' blog, too, and his friday radio forecast... and he is predicting worse driving conditions for Sunday than yesterday... he said it will be a more significant event coming than what we've already exper
  20. I can't believe how much snow we have!!!! We have 4.5 inches at our house in West Seattle near Alki (and I've heard more up the hill) and it's still coming down... How much snow do you have in your area? The ice this week has been awful... 3 events this week I was scheduled to go to were canceled due to ice or snow... Luckily I went to Met Market yesterday and stocked up on food. How is everyone else doing?
  21. Happy Belated Birthday wishes to spaetzle, ghostrider and seagal! Hope you all had wonderful celebrations!
