I went last night and had the artichokes too! If you haven't tried the new rendition of the skate, I highly recommend it. Pan roasted, served with a warmly spiced aioli, fingerling potatos, leeks and a small amount of preserved lemon (unlike the former skate, which was practically drowning in the preserved lemon the time that I had it). A very enjoyable dinner was topped off with an order of the strawberry shortcake. I got there around 8:30 and there was no wait. Chefs were friendly, service was lovely.

I don't like those "peninsula" seats at the end of the bar - If I'm by myself, I never like to sit directly across from a total stranger while I have my dinner. Somehow, it's just too intimate. Same thing at Noodle Bar. I also have an issue with the "little ledge" seats at Noodle Bar. I'm too clumsy and I'd end up with Kimchi stew in my lap if I sat at one of those and anyway, facing a wall 8 inches from my nose is no fun. But the hostesses always seem okay when I request to sit somewhere else. I just make it clear that I'm perfectly alright waiting as long as it takes until a better sea

I was there on Saturday too! Service was great, food was delicious. Everything *was* delicious, and it was one of those lovely, not-too-busy summer Saturday nights (most of the assholes being in the Hamptons ). Exactly... Why can't they always be in the Hamptons?

Hmm... Again, can't exactly say how this is happening without being a witness to other's experiences... I go in the evening, for dinner and it's usually the same group of servers and cooks and both groups are putting effort into making sure the service is good. My water is always full, the status of my beer gets checked, plates are cleared and replaced with clean ones and they can tell from the expression on my face that i need a squeeze tube of sriracha. I've seen them offer a "kids ramen" to young customers and automatically serve a bowl of ice along side the ramen so the child or parent

Every time I go to either ssam bar or noodle bar, the service is consistently good and always very friendly. I go to both restaurants quite frequently and so at this point there is a warm familiarity between me and the staff (and I'm not even a hipster), but I have observed the staff being helpful and nice to all customers regardless of the customers age, whether it's a repeat customer, etc.. Having not been an eye witness to this outing (which prompted five pages of posts), it's hard to know how the bad vibe started. I'm sure you can go back, clear the air and just get things off

Really? I thought that the evening menu at Ssam Bar and the all day menu at Noodle Bar both used pork belly in the buns, but the day menu at Ssam Bar was using pulled pork in the buns...

I have seen lamb belly on the menu - maybe 2 weeks ago... The people sitting next to me had it and they really liked it.

I once opened Glamour magazine to see a picture of myself. A woman had been prancing and sashaying around in the park, obviously trying to attract attention, with lipstick smeared across her face and some photographers were snapping her picture. I was like "what the f*^k?" The Glamour picture showed her with the unfortunate lipstick on her cheek and me in the background with a cartoon bubble coming out of my head with "what the f&*k?" I was the meannie who didn't tell her about her lipstick accident. No one got me to sign a release - I guess bad makeup is news worthy.

I think that the hamachi dish you described was on the menu at noodle bar last year. I remember it being delicious... I do strongly recommend the hamachi that is currently at noodle bar. The flavors are so bright - it has such a clean, fresh taste. I'm not so much of a fan of mochi either. The first time I ever had it was at Ssam Bar. The ice cream itself was very nice, but I don't really enjoy the rubbery texture of the mochi part. A friend told me that in Japan, when New Years is celebrated, people eat lots of mochi and every year some elderly die from choking on the mochi. Her

Right now, my favorite dishes there are the Banh-Mi, the chawan mushi (especially when they have it with the snails - it's a little bit salty and garlicky) and the uni. Is the hamachi the same as what they have been serving lately at noodle bar? At noodle bar, it's raw and served on top of a lemon cream, garnished with lemon salt, parsley and fried lily petals. That dish is gorgeous...

    Ssam Bar

Last night, on the way to meet a friend for dinner, I popped into Ssam Bar for a quick snack of malpeque oysters. They were with a light, thin, clear kimchi "juice" for lack of a better word. This was around 8:45 pm. Chatted with a server: after 6pm they serve both the "late night" menu and the ssams from the day menu. I thought that the creativity and innovation that has been characteristic of the late night menu is still intact despite the earlier hour and the presence of the daytime ssams on the dinner menu. Some new items present: an sea urchin dish with a whipped tofu puree

I just called. The recording says that Ssam Bar's dinner service starts at 6pm and lasts until 2pm.

I'm cutting and pasting from menupages.com Hours Mon-Sat: 11am-10pm Late Night Wed-Sun: 10:30pm-2:30am They still have listed the half hour break between 10 to 10:30. I'm not sure if I somehow have the menupages.com search result cached, but these are the hours that Ssam Bar's home page used to list.

Same as what is listed on menupages.com.

Yes - I know. And I'm wondering if they forgot to edit that time. Their main page for Ssam Bar didn't indicate that dinner was from 6pm to 2am until yesterday. When they changed the hours on the front page for Ssam Bar, they may have forgotten to change the time listed on the tab that has the late night food.

Interesting - I'm wondering if they just forgot to update the time on the late night menu page... It doesn't make any sense to distinguish between lunch and dinner hours (with no time gap between) unless they were offering different menus during the specified time frames.

2am - yes. I am seeing on the momofuku website that the late night menu for ssam bar starts at 6pm, not 10pm, 7 days a week. Every day, lunch is from 11am to 6pm, dinner is from 6pm to 2am.

Really? Cool. Once, with just a teensy amount of duck ragu in addition to the butter sauce. This thread is timely. 'Tis the season for a return visit. Yes, Tailies, I believe you are correct I was sitting at the kitchen and saw the "last gnocchi" leave the kitchen with a ragu on top. This was in late february of last year - Fat Tuesday, to be exact. It was very nice of the kitchen and FOH to offer me a complimentary gnocchi, without the ragu. The gnocchi was so light and the butter sauce was heavenly. Because it was Fat Tuesday, Hearth also provided complimentary home

I love the brussel sprouts - they are absolutely amazing. If anyone likes sardines, I highly recommend the sardine small plate.
