  1. Maybe lunch is the time to go. We just tried dinner last night and all the fried foods were cold, the service was terrible, and we eventually left and they even told us not to bother to pay. They said they were still trying to get the kinks worked out and the cooks should know not to put hot foods on the conveyor belt. This may be true, but the tempura was soggy like it had been stored in a refrigerator. Thankfully the sushi we had elsewhere was divine.
  2. I've actually seen a farm around here that does eggs with it's CSA, but I'd have to dig it up again.
  3. Yup. Very sad. They're looking for a new space, supposedly.
  4. Oooh, I'll go. I think I need the break.
  5. Now that it's been published, I feel OK posting about Ethan's new venture up on Capitol Hill: Anchovies and Olives. I can't wait for December to check it out and I'm psyched it's only four blocks away...
  6. Actually, I take it back. Thursday or Friday would be best.
  7. I might be up for it. When were you thinking? Tuesday is bad for me, but I could do other nights.
  8. I would love a Lunchbox Lab trip. I can't finish anything if I go alone!
  9. So glad you enjoyed the Union evening!. We had a great time too! Such great company and so nice to meet the Princess! As always (IMHO), the food and cocktails were excellent. We managed to sample a large portion of the menu and I don't think there was a clunker in the bunch. No one thought to keep the menu, and after a couple of cocktails and several glasses of wine, my memory is a bit fuzzy, but here's a brief recap of what I remember: We started with a couple of gifts at the beginning, one of yellowtail sashimi and one of geoduck with cucumber, horseradish and salmon roe.
  10. After all the hype about them I was really unimpressed. When I went the Monday after they opened with a friend, we were the only customers in the store and the girl behind the counter basically ignored us while making cones and didn't tell us about any of their toppings or other options when we asked about ordering some ice cream. I tried the scout mint, which was OK but mainly because of the ingredient quality. The cardamom ice cream was terribly boring and needed some other flavor to balance it out. In the middle of eating our cones and talking, someone came out of the back and start
  11. It's looking like I'm working from home for the morning. Any chance one more might be added to the reservation?
  12. I second the classes. Some of his recipes have been Thanksgiving staples of mine for a while now and getting a feel for his approach to cooking has helped my improv French cooking a lot. All this reminds me I still need to check out Sambar... does he have a mailing list for these classes? Not that I know of. I seem to remember that they're on the last Sunday of every month and he has an afternoon and evening class. They're something like $60 and I've always just called. Do they even have a website?

  14. Hello! I'm just popping over from the USA:PNW board to see if I can get any tips on the food scenes in Edinburgh and Glasgow. It looks like I'll be heading over there this spring to do some research in various national archives and while I'll likely be crashing in a hostel in the center of town because the dollar is so weak, I'm willing to scrimp and save a bit in the name of food. Any hidden gems of restaurants, markets, and other tidbits I should know about? Thanks
  15. Ooh, waffles? I've never noticed this place. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.
  16. I've been passing it since they first started renovating as it's on the way from my apartment to I-5, but it suffers from being on Madison and thus from a lack of parking. It would be a good place to hit if you're going to one of the hospitals, though.
  17. I'm up for anything in the first 2/3rds of December or anytime in January. Just pick the place!
  18. I have strep throat and thus am bowing out as I think everyone else would like to be able to swallow . As part of my effort to continue to keep Bjorn away from me, I'm sending him and my wine.
  19. We would love to meet Nightscotsman since we came on the scene just after he left, but if it gets crowded by all means bump us in favor of folks who "knew him when..." Likewise.
