Forever associated with Harold and Maude. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj32mj3xzd1o
  2. Guessing the latter. Our local Puerto Rican restaurant is running Bad Bunny-themed specials today.
  3. Our local Grocery Outlet had Rogue Creamery's Brutal Blue in stock. Another very intense blue, the kind you can only have small pieces of.
  4. We have someone to do the driveway, but after not raining for weeks we have several days' worth of rain predicted for the coming week, meaning that the actual work is going to have to be delayed. At least the railing part can be done now.
  5. Last spring, the NY Times published a special supplement on springtime pasta recipes. Last night, I made their spaghetti with mushrooms and broccolini. It's an Asian-style stir-fry that uses noodles instead of rice for the starch, though I'm surprised that it calls for spaghetti rather than Asian noodles. Still pretty good, though.
  6. And the sorrel was also from our garden.
  7. Pan-seared salmon fillets with sorrel sauce, mashed purple sweet potato (nothing added, not even salt), and sauteed greens from our garden.
  8. I won a fancy (and pricey) fig & chocolate panettone from someone in our local Buy Nothing group.
  9. Long rant summarized as thus: we have to get our driveway repaired or replaced, our garden entirely cleaned up, and hand railings added to our back staircase or our home insurance folks will cancel our policy by the end of the month. (We found out about this last week, so we have been making headway.)
  10. Oh no! I thought it was one of those places that would be around forever.
  11. Sourdough discard + frozen bananas (from our garden) = banana bread with chocolate chips.
  12. Maybe I'll have to try it with my Glenlivet.
  13. I was hoping Da Bears would get through.
  14. Seahawks vs. Patriots. Yawn. Hype is heavy in the Bay Area. Pregame and halftime music will be the high point for sure.
  15. All set for World of Coffee San Diego. Looking forward to exploring the city and catching a Padres game.
  16. Deadly Sin 2 oz. bourbon 1/3 oz. sweet vermouth 1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur 1 dash orange bitters Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

    Uncle Floyd

I didn't realize how young he was back in his heyday.
  18. Shepherd's pie with both white and sweet potatoes on top. As it has been for the last several nights, dessert was almond-filled king cake from Joe Gambino's.
  19. Lower back pain flare-up. I injured my back years ago and I get these flare-ups from time to time.
  20. One Battle After Another. Hoo boy was that intense. I'm glad I saw it at home so that I could take pause breaks. I was going to see Marty Supreme in the theater, but I think I'm going to need the same kind of breaks.
  21. If you're ever in SF, Comstock Saloon will do that for you.
  22. First female Black America's Test Kitchen presenter. She'd been battling ovarian cancer for a long time. https://www.wbur.org/news/2026/01/07/chef-food-stylist-elle-simone-scott-dies

    Bob Weir

At 78. I think this leaves Bill Kreutzmann as the last surviving original Grateful Dead member.
  24. The Crux Cocktail: equal parts brandy, triple sec, Dubonnet Rouge (didn't have--I used Cinzano Rosso), and lemon juice, shaken over ice and strained into a chilled cocktail glass.
  25. Leave it to Laszlo to provide a bit of sanity.
