What does this mean, cab fare? Now I really don't feel bad about not reading any of this crap.

Also, and possibly not for you, but we always have breakfast (or maybe lunch) at Becky's Diner...it's a classic...https://www.beckysdiner.com/ Dutch's is not bad either...https://www.dutchsportland.com/ And the surprise I learned from a Portland native...in South Portland...SoPo Seafood...https://www.soposeafood.com/

My favorite oysters in this country, without a doubt. In certainly one of my favorite eating cities in this country.

Rack of lamb, roasted potatoes, and roasted broccolini. As much as I love (and use) my countertop steam oven, there is nothing like roasting in a real, full-sized oven.

Not only with the travel section, maybe add sports as well...because if you survive Roses, you can head to Rome. It just won't be as easy there... Face your Gladiator II destiny with strength and honor at the Colosseum

It’s not exactly a late night town, except for maybe some of the bars.

Here you go…https://www.goldbelly.com/restaurants/kelly-fields/buttermilk-biscuits-and-pimento-cheese-kit-for-6-8?ref=search And if you’re ever in Provincetown during the season, Kelly will most likely be cooking at Butch’s.

I think if you time it for mid-afternoon you should be OK. Fortunately, it's not the middle of high season up there.

I'm sure you all know this, but Foxface Provisions (via the Foxface Bread Stand) is cranking up and selling breads via pre-order, to be picked up on Wednesdays and Fridays. We're out-of-town, otherwise I would've gotten some of the first batch baked (baked batch?)... https://foxface-provisions.square.site/ I love Joel's technique on this video (fwiw, when I tried working with 100% rye back in the day, I destroyed my shoulder)... https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCh2S3DSVOR/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

They've had this cheese called Payoyo the last few times I've been there; it's a blend of sheep and goat from Andalucia, and it's quite good. I also bought a giant tin of my favorite potato chips to bring on our road trip down to N. Carolina for Thanksgiving. We're having Katz's the day after Thanksgiving (since it was the easiest thing to send down ahead), and I figure the added sodium can only help. Actually, the chips are not too salty (the other brand, Torres, are quite salty)...

Very different experiences...I like Eventide for lunch or even maybe "happy hour." Scales for dinner.
-
They're fairly different experiences, to be sure. For me, the bar at Scales is a lot of fun. I can also boil it down to oysters, and the shucking thereof: Here's how Fore Street's looked on a recent trip: Like those bottom two oysters should not have been served; some of the rest are a hot mess too. Now Scales, for comparison: Both the above from our 2023 trip. This year, at Scales, we sat at the bar: That's the real deal. And a great Martini to go along.

I heartily recommend Scales, sitting at the bar, for some of the best oysters in the US. And great lobster cooking as well. Also great oysters and selection at Eventide...https://www.eventideoysterco.com/ Bars aplenty: Maps Bar, with lots of vinyl...https://www.instagram.com/maps_bar_portland/ (and they make a good cocktail, too). Bramhall - a "modern speakeasy." https://www.bramhallme.com/ Dock Fore...Old school bar with lots of TVs...https://www.instagram.com/dockfore1/?hl=en For my money, a nice place to have a good cocktail is at the bar at Fore Street Restaurant...https://www.forestreet.biz/ Fancy prix fixe menu food, at not really that fancy a price is at Twelve...https://www.twelvemaine.com/ (looks like the do a la carte as well) Sadly, the Winslow Homer studio tour appears done for the season. It gets chilly out on Prout's Neck.
