  1. It's been around for several years but I finally got around to viewing the 7 episode series "Under the Banner of Heaven." This is good stuff based on a true story exploring a murder case and a certain Mormon cult of extreme believers. It resonates a bit with certain thoughts about the mentality of current cults like QAnon and various militias. Andrew Garfield and Gil Birmingham are excellent.
  2. Cole's (gulp) is closing. Not sure if it's really LA's oldest restaurant, but it is/was an original. https://la.eater.com/restaurant-closings/286195/coles-french-dip-los-angeles-closino
  3. Hey, girls! Don't let the Kardashians hold you back. https://bblmaster.com/

    Fauja Singh

India's Fauja Singh, believed to be the world's oldest distance runner, has died in a road accident at age 114, his biographer said Tuesday. Singh, an Indian-born British national, nicknamed the "Turbaned Tornado," died after being hit by a vehicle in Punjab state's Jalandhar district on Monday. "My Turbaned Tornado is no more," Fauja's biographer Khushwant Singh wrote on X. "He was struck by an unidentified vehicle ... in his village, Bias, while crossing the road. Rest in peace, my dear Fauja." Singh did not have a birth certificate but his family said he was born on April 1, 1911. He ran full marathons until the age of 100. His last race was a 10-kilometer event at the 2013 Hong Kong Marathon at the age of 101, where he finished in 1 hour, 32 minutes and 28 seconds. Still, 114 ain't bad.
  6. "Heads of State" on Prime. Pretty good popcorn film about nefarious forces trying to prevent the US and UK from saving NATO. At points the plot gets so convoluted that the writers are forced to engage in extensive exposition. After that I would find myself saying, "So what? Let's get back to killing folks and blowing things up." Which happens. Filmed, IIRC, in France, Italy and Serbia.
  7. Speaking of cringe, is Bezos going to buy Conde Nast or merely Vogue?
  8. Maybe they get a good percentage of the conference's TV revenue?

  10. What is happening? We can make this trade. This star can go there. But don't we have teams anymore? Or will hedge funds own high profile players? Can we dial this back a little?
  11. LeBron to the Knicks? Seriously?
  12. Sounds as if they need your expertise.

  19. Weren't you his rival for Katie Holmes?
  20. Laker fans are optimistic that Deandre Ayton will be the center the team has needed to go all the way. Meanwhile, Clayton Kershaw has notched his 3,000th strikeout for the Dodgers. Good times for LA sports fans but there are rumors that LeBron might jump to the Timberwolves to chase another title.
  21. Basically a Tom Cruise film but with Pitt in his spot. Brad does seem better with the women than Tom.
